Hi everyone, my grandpa died yesterday. He had an heartattack while driving and drove into a wall. He died before hitting the wall, thank God, but I have a very hard time coping. He meant a lot to me. He was my rolemodel all my life. Do you guys have advice how to cope, how to think of something else, something better?

Just do your favorite activity calm your mind. Do something to distract you from thinking about him

I'm sorry. I don't know how spiritual you are? I've had dreams of grandparents and know that they still look out for me in the limited way they can. Sometimes I say a prayer for them. Whether you think it or not, he is still apart of your life and will be.

In the meantime, you can spend time with the rest of your family, hang out with friends, do things that you enjoy.

I know it is a cliche thing to say but give it time. Meanwhile, try to focus on anything else really.
When my dad died, i couldnt do much else than studying cuz i was in middle of finals, but i would probably play vidya/binge watched somethingtill i drop. I also love riding bike or reading if you are into that

This is true, you got to let yourself grieve and give it the time needed to heal.

There will be times you are reminded of him and it will be hard but it does get easier.

I'm sorry for both of your losses, anons. Your stories make me feel self conscious because my own father is 85 years old and I'm terrified of losing him. I was born when he was 62 years old so I've known him as this old man. Recently he fell and hit his head, which scared all of his children. I'm really worried about him getting in an accident or something when nobody is around. And since I'm at college and he lives alone (mostly) I'm always afraid of getting the phone call that would be the end.

I don't wanna lose my dad. I wish he had me when he was younger. I think anyone who has kids past 40 years old is doing something awful to their children without realizing it.

And you had to necro this thread just to say that?
Death is an integral part of life, if you can't accept that, you might as well kill yourself now.

Take solace that he died before hitting the wall. Go for some long walks. Nature has a way of calming me down. Visit art museums, if that's more your thing. Do things that you and your dad did that made you happy. That will focus your mind on positive memories of your grandfather.

Good luck.

People die.

Remember the good times and things he taught you.

Try not to focus on when he raped you
