COLLEGE SECOND THOUGHTS

I know this is more /adv/-related, but that board is too feelsy for the cold answer I'm looking for.
I'll greentext for tl;dr purposes:
>get into best Electronics college in the country (poorfag, can't study abroad even if I'd receive scholarship)

>expectation: learning stuff through a more practical, engineer-like approach
>reality: memorise memorise memorise
The sheer volume of stuff in the curriculum that needs be studied is simply too large to be processed and assimilated properly.
BONUS: Everybody cheats on exams. I've only found this one out recently, so of course it annoyed the hell out of me.

I feel like I'm stuck between two choices:
>Cheat as well
This one would only make sense in the context actually studying for a handful of subjects which would actually interest me. But it simply feels wrong

>Keep doing what I'm doing
I think that if I keep up with my current approach, I'll either burn out or get my diploma without actually having gathered any meaningful knowledge( I'd turn out to be thhat guy who knows a little bit from everything but isn't a specialist in anything)

Please tell me there's a third option which I fail to see.

tl;dr

I have these feels.

Doing a human biology degree. I was looking forward to the learning experience and getting the skill. From day one its been an exercise in, "dont understand, just learn lists of stuff". Basiclly the class is full of people who were spoon fed in high school and its too late to actually start teaching. At this level though that approach is beyond reasonable. Instead of taking advantage of the teaching its an exercse in just do the stuff you need. Everyone is cheating and being about getting a first class degree. Id rather get low marks and get the skills I need than have some meaningless mark. I refuse to take part in this dumb ass way of doing things and now after paying a clean fortune Im teaching myself because University favours letting in rich kid fucks whos parents are buying them future status.

Its fucking depressing.

I total understand what you mean op.
I was in the exact same situation few years back and decided do partially cheat and study what want to remember otherwise its is impossible.
I remember my reaction when i found out that 70% of the class were cheating form day one.
It hit me had as a truck and I decided I will show them.
And it worked my ass off until the third semester when professor didn't want to give me 1 deserved point because of his mistake just enough to enter A grade while the cheaters were laughing all the way to the bank.
Right there i gave up and do what i do now.

Also you are from eastern Europe right?

You guessed it: Bucharest, Romania, ETTI.

It's an asskissing cheater's shitfest

So leave. No 'but's.

Somehow you're doing it wrong OP. I'm CS/CE major and have never felt this. Sure there's small shit that you have to remember that the professors will try to trick you with, but honestly most of the memorization happens in the practice of problems. If you honestly feel like that's what your education will entail then you should change your major to something like CS/CE.

I study in uk currently. From the perspective I earned here, polish technical universities seem surreal:
1. Up to 4 resits before failing course.
2. Cheating punished by lowest grade (for given exam not course) and no resit. That's all.

Literally at times it's simply beneficial to cheat. Irony is the bigger, as most schools have enough students. They could easily kick out 60-70% of people from many degrees, still have 20-40 pupils and deliver the education comparable with decent uk unis. But nah, they get money proportional to number of students, so why would they fail anyone.

Ouch, you definitely hit the nail on the head with this one.
True academia is dying for the sake of raking in profits

It's not how much you know, it's who you know. If cheating is that bad in your college, then the successful people are going to be the ones that cheated and made lots of friends to rely on, not the poor saps that got mediocre grades memorizing everything that they forgot a semester later. You're poor, figure out what you have to do to get a good job.

And knowing how to work the paperwork, you're not gunna get far twiddling your thumbs up each others asses.

Somehow ironic. In germany there's nothing of this liek this. Of course you have modules wher eyou have to memorize alot. But there's always transfer asked and if you're caught cheating it's most likely good bye. After two up to three times failing a module / class you're out of the program and closed out for a lifetime for this program plus similiar ones.

No wonder why so many people get their degrees. Most Universities are just a mere business in different countries. The one who pays will get his degree. That why many degrees are just trash.

If you value education I can say come to germany, get into some proper University like RWTH, TU Dortmund or similiar and you won't have this problem. It's hard, almost no memorization but you actually learn something.

Germany for example doesn't hand out degrees like candies.

You get here knowledge, the actual skills if you put in the effort and a good environment to get employment. That's just a suggestions.

>inb4 muh refugee meme
I don't like them and I don't invite anyone here who is hoping for an easy life. But people like you who are looking for a solution and just want a better future with actual effort (!) I would highly recommend to look into the option coming here.
>>
Hwo are you or the people cheating in University?
I mean, how is this even possible?

Honest question.
>>
>>17141698
You've got 2 ppl supervising a lecture hall filled with 100+ students. Of course cheating's bound to happen, especially since most teachers don't even bother checking the pages you're writing on to see if they're blank
