Going to the doc this Wednesday bc of depression
probably going to be put on meds
What do they feel like once you start taking them? I'd want them to make me feel like an emotionless zombie. Is this possible?

I took Wellbutrin, which is a pretty mild antidepressant, especially in the doses I was taking. It was awesome, I barely felt different from a personality standpoint, but I didn't feel as much impending doom. Plus you have less appetite so you don't get fat and it helps you get drunk faster.

Interesting, but I would want something stronger and I wouldn't want to have less of an appetite bc I'm already skinny as it is.

They range greatly depending on the person, what kind of meds, what dosage and if they're combined with any other meds.

I'm on prozac and effexor but it took a good 5 or so tries and a year or two before I found this combination that really worked for me. I don't feel emotionless but it stops me from getting really randomly depressed. Keeps me a baseline that ranges from content to happy. Side effects are it takes longer to cum, and it's even used as an EDF treatment, which my gf loves cause I can last basically as long as I want to. Worst side-effects I had was when I tried Zoloft. It made me super spiteful and angry.

My advice: Try it with an open mind and be patient. Communicate with your doctor and please don't think you know better and start self-prescribing. So many people stop taking them abrubtly, or cut 'em in half, etc. And it fucks you up. Also you might think "I feel great after taking these for X months, guess I don't need 'em anymore!". Don't do this. If you want off, tell your doctor.

I'll keep this in mind.

I wouldn't mind this side-effect. I'm currently struggling to be more assertive and speak up to others, so maybe being spiteful and angry would help me out? Who knows

No. It's not fun. You'll need to put inthe work to be more natually assertive.

It depends on the antidepressant. I've been on sertraline (generic Zoloft) which is an ssri, and I'm on Wellbutrin/bupropion now.

SSRIs will kill your libido, and they'll blunt your emotions. The lows are less low, and the highs are less high. It completely takes away the intense low emotions but your positive ones suffer as well.

Wellbutrin doesn't take away the highs or the lows, but makes the lows less intense. I still get depressed moods, but instead of wanting to kill myself I just get really bummed for a few hours.

I haven't taken a benzo but I'd be really careful with those if your doc suggests them. They're insanely addictive.

Benzo's are very dangerous. SSRI's are meme tier and SNRI's are similar. Remeron and similar will make you very dopey and hungry all the time but will help numb some of the pain.

For example, I am in somewhat of a crisis because I have some kind of depressive disorder and I realize now that I cannot function in a 8-5 job because of it, and in my final year of an eng degree I'm shit scared and worried about this.

I want to try an irreversible MAOI when my studies are over, but that wont be able to be combined with any ADD meds, which will also fuck me.

Whatever

It's really not good, Citalopram did this to me.
I had to try real fucking hard not to punch people in the face for stupid shit like, wearing the wrong coloured shoe laces, having a stupid accent, not brushing their hair properly.

You sound dumb. Just wreck your brain with hard drugs if you want that. You clearly dont want real help

Somewhat on topic, but what's the safest way of getting off antidepressants?

I use to take them a few years ago and just went cold turkey, I suffered from dizziness and headaches for almost a month. My gf is trying to get off of them gradually (a pill every other day, then every two days, etc) and is having an even worse time than I had.

Anything she can do or take to help alleviate the symptoms of dizziness, confusion, etc? Would it be better to stop all together instead of weening off of them slowly?

Currently on zoloft for anxiety and now I can't fap

I took zoloft about 5 years ago and had no side effects. Felt much better honestly. Wish I was still on them honestly.

I've been on Citalopram for about two months now and I'm still taking notes on the kind of effects that it has on me.

The good: I've felt much more stable. When I first started taking meds, I felt as though there was a barrier around my frontal lobe keeping anxiety at bay. That sensation has either gone away or I've gotten used to it to the point that I no longer feel it. Either way I've felt a general sense of calm.

The bad: Depression makes me fatigued and the medication exacerbates that (simple solution is to just take it before bed, but I'm still generally fatigued). It also takes longer to climax (fapping or not fapping).

I've also had three occasions in which the depression/anxiety has come back to the point of feeling suicidal, so my doc recently upped my dosage from 20mg to 40mg. Hoping the increase can keep thing steadier going forward.
