A long, painful, boring and expensive experience.
>>
It's a mix of wonderful, crazy, fun days and horribly depressing, stressful, and confusing days.

I wouldn't trade it for anything though.
>>
>>17026944
depends on the college... people who actually attend college make it a different experience. for me, personally, its boring.

Unless you're a social butterfly who loves meeting new people and learning new things, all while having it paid for by scholarships, parents/ and/or yourself, college is 1 of the most depressing experiences of your entire life

You're put into an environment where making close relationships is much more difficult since most of the people you meet are just doing their own thing going from point A to point B. If your college has lots of activities to do, you may be spared from this. Otherwise, friendships seem to pop ups at random. Also, get used to the word "Networking" as it can be the difference between working a job you hate or a job you like.

You're forced to live with anywhere from 1-3 other people, depending on how big your dorms are. You better pray you get lucky and get people that see eye to eye on things like cleaning, hours of silence, etc like you do because despite what they tell you, colleges don't give a shit who they pair you with. You can live off campus, but the other solutions are living with parents at 21, or moving into a low rent, semi-better apartment.

For the first 3-4 years you will be forced to relearn and restudy things that you felt meh or absolutely hated in high school. What's that? You don't know what you wanna do yet? Well, you better figure it the fuck out in your first 2 years. Otherwise if your decide to drop and swap majors at year 3 or later, you're looking at another 1-2 years.

Don't have any source of income? Well you better get on that ASAP! Unless you still wanna live off of mommy and daddy's pay checks. You'll probably be stuck working a job that high school students could do and that you will more than likely hate. After going to classes all day, you will return home only to suddenly leave to go to your job. Then to return later on in the evening/night and have the choice between doing homework and studying, or doing whatever you want with what little free time you have.
>>
It's exhausting, especially if you're actually taking classes and trying to do well a good university. If you're taking more than the bare minimum of courses you're going to spend a lot of time writing papers, doing reading assignments, and just plain sitting in lecture. If you have plans to pursue any higher level fo education you will spend so much of your time on school, volunteer work, and chasing letters of recommendation. If you aren't then you ought to spending your time volunteering, networking, and trying to line up internships.

If you're smart about your time management, then you can set time aside for the fun stuff. You'll have more opportunities than ever to meet like-minded people and make new friends. Parties can be insanely awesome. But unlike the media portrayal, that stuff isn't how you'll be spending most of your time.
>>
>>17027067
ALL of this topped off by the fact that f you AREN'T finding someway to pay for this, you are taking out student loans that will put you tens of thousands of dollars into debt that will take you at 10 years to pay off. Though the average amount of time seems to be 20-30. Even my philosophy professor said that he was still paying loans. And he was like 56! I had 1 friends who said he had to take a class on "leadership skills" that cost $14,000`. $14,000. He was forced to take a class, A SINGLE FUCKING CLASS, on the horseshit known as "leadership skills", (something you could easily learn here on 4chan, or more practically, the Internet, for free and yielding much better results) for 14-fucking-thousand dollars.

To this day, any time I am remotely interested in going back to college I remember the ridiculous amounts of bullshit and am reminded that my life isn't so bad after all
>>
I take all my classes online, so for me college has mainly consisted of reading textbooks and scholarly journal articles, collecting research and writing up long reports.
>>
>>17027068
Just curious, how do you get internships? Do you just go online and apply to as much as possible or what? Also, is after freshman year a possible time to start your internship

As a 21 year old who has gotten over my depression and anxiety and got accepted into university yesterday. Fuck all of you, I feel horrible now.
>>
>>17027067

Real talk, I would totally be okay with living with my parents. I'm 21, when I had to move out of my apartment (place was getting torn down), I stayed with my parents for 3 months.

It was awesome. Commuting was a bitch, but free laundry, food pouring out of the fridge, free internet, had a car I can borrow, all in exchange for doing some work around the house and helping my parents with tech issues.

I love my roommates rn, but god damn, living with my parents was a pretty sweet deal.
>>
>>17028299
are you me from the past?

i got over a depression and went to university at 21. tbf, you should be fine. people here are talking from personal experience. you get all sorts of different people in you.
>>
>>17028319
i dont know why people look down on the idea of living with your parents. i mean, its way easier. i live with my parents and its great. im nearly 22 and idgaf.
>>
>>17028335

>But anon what are you gun do when you want 2 bring an qt 3.14, hnnnghh.

Legit none of the girls I brought over cared. It's actually way better sexing your gf at your parents place since they at least respect your privacy as opposed to roommates.
>>
college was awesome for me
i meet a lot of cool down to earth ppl, tried awesome drugs, had great parties and im not even a social butterfly, just found a group of cool ass ppl that accepted my weird ways

but yeah classes are stressful as fuck
>>
>>17026944
It's awesome! Huge parties every night, free drugs and free booze everywhere, lots of hot chicks walking around. Plenty of hot dudes too for the ladies out there. And you don't even have to go to any of the classes! They can't give you detention for skipping out or chatting with your mates during class. Show up enough so you don't fail all the exams and you'll be fine, they can't kick you out unless you get all F's. Bonus if your good at sports then join a baseball or football team and they can't kick you out at all.

Wake up, smoke a bowl, grab some beers, chill out playing vidya and hanging with the roomies, go to a party, have fun, get drunk, get laid, rinse and repeat. That's what college life is like.
>>
For normal people, it's probably great. For a stupid neckbeard like me, it's miserable.

I guess it's to be expected since it's 4chan

I may have had a shit time at university but I'm smart enough to realise that it was MY FAULT. If I had made more of a fucking effort to socialise I would have had a great time, but I let my fears get the best of me, so I sat in my room and didn't push myself out there (enough).

I have friends who, while also having some difficult / depressing periods at uni, also had great times. Because they pushed themselves out there more.

University is what you make of it, and you should go in all guns fucking blazing because you will NEVER get those sorts of social opportunities EVER AGAIN and you should definitely take advantage of them as much as you can while they're there.
>>
Just to the people who are posting about how miserable and lonely you are in college.

It's toward the end of the semester. There are people you see every day, and might have small interactions with regularly. It wouldn't be weird to start a conversation with one of these people.

Just ask one of these people out for a drink after class. If they say no, try to get their phone number and make plans with them.

That is literally all you need to do to make friends at uni.
>>
>>17028515
What if you don't like having drinks with random people?
Not being facetious, this is the problem for many people. They simply don't enjoy the same kinds of social activities others do, and in a homogeneous college they're not going to have a lot of fun.
>>
>>17028522
>What if you don't like having drinks with random people?
Then you ask them to do something else.

>They simply don't enjoy the same kinds of social activities others do
Then start a club where you do the social activity that you want to do.

>homogeneous college
Transfer out if you don't like it.
>>
OK, looky here. College is not crappy. College is fun. But you gotta know the "hacks". First, look up every professor you take on ratemyprofessor before signing up for classes. If they have cosistentlyreviews, they're a bad professor. Find a different one.

Also, talk to people. Unlike high school, social cliques are not well-defined. If you're a nerd, you can talk to hot babes now, and vice versa. Just be friendly and helpful and you'll make lots of friends and have a good time. The only BS cliques are fraternities and sororities, which are usually composed of the "popular kids" from high school, who want to still feel like they're super important in college.

Remember that in college, nobody's forcing you to be there. You can leave any time, or whatever. But life will probably be better if you tough it out and get your degree.

Also, LOTS of people meet their future husband/wife in college. For kindling romantic relationships, there is really no better time. People have free time, people are still open to trying new things, but they don't have much money. So keep cool date ideas in mind.

Just have fun. College is the best time to confront your fears and experiment with stuff. Figuring out your priorities is one of the most important milestones in life, and it's a lot easier in college, where your life is still pretty open-ended. As long as you don't do anything super stupid, it's really the safest environment to learn about who you really are, whatever that means.

Of course, there are a lot of people who go to college just so that they can earn more money. More power to them, but I think they're usually missing the point. High school is like forced labor. College is a place where you can do practically whatever you want, provided you're willing to jump through the right hoops.
>>
>>17028446
this is what college life is like if you want a shit career.
>>
>>17028554
For many classes, especially higher level STEM classes, there is only one professor and it is a required class, so you're screwed. Choosing a professor is more for fresh/soph classes and liberal arts classes.
>>
>>17028555
Fuck off nerd, I don't give a shit for your preaching, I'm gonna get rich one day while your just gonna be another office drone

think i would bull you if you where in my university. the point of college is to enter into a career you want. not to become an office drone. you end up in a job you regret by not getting a good degree. you can party and study but you should be putting your work first. the whole point of college is to learn, not procrastinate.

Well my classes are less intellectually demanding than high school, I hate my major, I have no opportunities after leaving, and I'm too fat to get laid, not like it matters anyways because antidepressants have given my dick ED.
>>
I graduated a few years ago and I miss it. It's an excuse to be a selfish, self absorbed drunk shit head for 4 years. It's all about embracing your new found freedom.

Smoking weed, discovering new bands, having weird and awkward sexual experiences, going to class still drunk and wearing pajamas.

It's all about balancing being a shitty doucheball and getting your schoolwork done.

I was very fortunate to receive help from my family like that.

Dude IVY leagues exist the same way the NHL exists over the juniors...they are better because they only let the best in... that being said if you can horseshoe your ass into Yale or Harvard do it.As i said when i finished... college can often be "a fucking daycare centre for people's adult children" if your going to a crappy school try to work as hard as you can, alone if you have to, to get the best education you fucking can because sometimes it REALLY is what you know that can get you somewhere.

Hi, uni fag here, mechanical engineering major , I know ladies please, save your orgasms till the end.

Well from my experience it depends on your major. If you want to bang bad bitches every night, drink until your liver fails choose a social science major, and practice your flipping skills as you'll have wasted your time in college learning nothing.

If you want a decent major but still fuck bad bitches have a shot at a decent life after college choose business and get ready to sale cars because that's probably going to be your first job after college.

Now if your a basement dwelling neck beard who wants to spend your entire life in College choose a science degree. You'll never leave.

If you are part of the sperglord master race, and fuck robot arms and dakumara pillows choose the engineering master race. You won't sleep, you'll develop bad eating habits and build robots. Say good bye to a social life because all you need is you and your other autistic friends. All virgins too!

You'll spend your days studying and nights doing lab reports as you find out you've learned every major in the span of 5years. You'll likely get a decent job after college but is it worth the burrito dust?

Maybe.

It depends what kind of person you are. It can good, bad or somewhere in-between.

It's somewhat in-between for me. I haven't really met too many interesting people, and the few I've met I never see after the end of the semester. I guess that depends on what kind of person you are though, because I have to admit that I'm not really that social to begin with, and only have a few close friends, mainly because I fail to keep contact with people.

Also, depending on what college you go to, and what kind of person you are, expect a lot of "SJW" stuff. You'll run into some professors that are "left wing" and will make the class into a white guilt indoctrination class. While these professors aren't really that common, you'll still occasionally run into them. Most of the time the leftist drivel is from your peers. A lot of my friends say they don't really experience this problem at their schools that often, so I'm not sure if it's due to the fact that they go to smaller private colleges or maybe I just have some sort of bitter outlook on that stuff.

Oh yeah, how do you get laid in college?
Because I get into bars or clubs because I'm not 21, and there are no open house parties at my college, all parties are locked down and private, and the only ones that are even worth anything are the few frat ones, and those are locked down even more. And I couldn't get into any frats

I went to a US top 25 college in a major city. It was pretty good.

Best semester.
>apartment off campus with a roommate
>18 credits all in science and engineering
>10-12 hours a week working in the cafeteria for dem free meals
>10 hours a week in a professors lab for a research project
>smoked and drank most nights
>weekends were spent getting smoked out for free at my dealer's place or going to party's thrown by the engineering association
>finished that semester with a 3.6 GPA; my best semester
>best memory: buying some kids 40's so they could drink with the other 20 of us in our engineering lab on a weeknight

No luck with women because I had an unconventional style and spent my time drinking and smoking.
