Hi guys, beta cuck here.

In about a year or so, I plan to switch from air national guard to active duty and was wondering if I should finance a vehicle. I currently have $9000 in my savings and wanted to get a 5 year loan for a $14000 vehicle. I make, on average, $1600 a month. Rent is cheap, well maintained diet, income also coming in from attending college (not included in what I make), but my current car is taking a dump on me and I have thought about a new vehicle.

Is it smart to finance a 2013 hybrid vehicle with 60,000 miles on it, or should I just finance a new car, around the same price, but without any of the comfortable amenities I'd prefer?

Never buy anything you can't pay in full for.
>>
Cars are a depreciating asset, cheap and reliable is ideal but a good service record account for a lot as well. What sort of mileage do you normally do in a year? D

never finance anything, it's never a good idea no matter what

that is my advice

Buying a use/new "regular" car/truck>buying a used hybrid every time.

I just wouldn't ever buy something electric that isn't new. Too many things go wrong with the batteries on those things and if you aren't under warranty you're fucked. RIDICULOUS costs to repair/replace the battery/charging systems on those.

There's no reason you can't find a car that fits your needed amenities that is used. If you get it to a dealer before you buy it and have them check it out, (usually costs like 80 bucks) they'll usually tell you straight up if it's any good.

But a nice 2009-2011 Honda civic or accord. They are cheap and very good cars

>2013 car
>60,000 miles

You can get older cars with less mileage for much less than that.

Though if your only options are between the 2013 one and a new one, go for the 2013 one obviously
>>
WHY

Why would you waste so much money on a car?

Just pick up a cheap ass miata or mr-2 and enjoy some of the best driving experiences possible

Don't listen to this asshole. If you have 9k to put down and you buy a 14k car you're only financing 5k. That's almost nothing. Depending on the interest rate you get, you monthly payments should be super manageable, and then you're building your credit. Next year when you get your tax return you might just be able to pay the whole thing off outright.

If you know you can make the payments, finance. In the end it will better your credit score and make buying a house or financing loans in the future even easier.

OP's not asking whether to finance, he's asking which car to buy
>>
OP don't be an idiot and finance a car.

Instead, get a Toyota Aygo/Citroen C1/Peugeot 107 (they're all the same car) for 1/3rd of that price and drive more cheaply.

I normally put in 6k-8k per year, depending.

I see a lot of both sides of the argument. This is a tough decision.

I am looking at financing a vehicle. I already know I can afford it. Even with 8% interest, the payments would be about 10% of my monthly income. I would prefer financing so I can keep most of that cash in case of an emergency, car repairs, etc.
