Look at it this way.
You have the option to be lonely or not be lonely.
But you cannot avoid eventual sorrow, because it will come through the loneliness anyway.

In the short term, yes. In the long term, you start feeling the crushing depression anyway. It's like thermodynamics: you can't win, you can't break even, and you can't get out of the game.
