sup /adv/

I've been gambling too much lately. It was fun at start but now I've been gambling over an hour a day. Point is, I've actually won money lately. Got a 1000$ jackpot and won 300$ more today. With all losses included I definately won a few hundered dollars.

Anyway, I got the feeling I'm getting addicted. I don't even like gambling anymore, I just do it because it keeps my mind off things. I want to stop it before I develop more of an addiction.

First things first, since I gamble almost exclusively at one website, I downloaded this addon for chrome that can 'nuke' complete domains called 'stayfocusd'. I also blocked the use of internet explorer and all domains that let's me download different web browsers.
Now since I've done that, I just changed devices. The website is also accessable through my smartphone. And I haven't found any app/program that let's me block domains on chrome and the standard web browser that I cannot delete. Got android btw.
Pls help me find a way to block all my acces to this online gambling.

Also gambling addiction general. Any of you suffer from it? Any of you got rid of your addiction and how?

A family friend had it, made big trouble for his whole family. Not sure how to kick the habit, but there are different ways to gamble (you can do it in some games like GW2 or play online poker or whatever)... Or just play poker with cents with friends or over who gets the trophy next (weekly)...

Best thing would probably be to kick the habit asap totally and avoid any stimulants, but if you canĀ“t, consider the possibilities not involving any actual cash/property ;)

>I definately won a few hundered dollars.

Precise math truly is the enemy of any wannabe pro gambler. Guesstimation is key to maintaining a happy ignorance of the true state of your gambling finances.

Could be. I tend to forget about the losses and remember the big catches. Either way I'm not yet in a situation where I'm financially instable, but that also has to do with some savings I have no purpose for.

Also: I don't spend much money on other stuff. Just makes me think I could've spend it on gambling.

What do you mean by that?

I absolutely don't want to get in a situation where I drag friends and family into this habit. Avoiding this casino website for three month's was my goal at one point but after two weeks I played again. 'just one more time'

I need to find a way to block these domains on my phone. If that is possible I won't be able to visit, and a trip to the casino is a way bigger step to take. This whole habit started when I discovered internet gambling. Blocking all browsers is not an option because I need phone internet for my work

Gambling works like most other addictions and the cure is the same. Abstinence and active removal of triggers which prompt the problem behaviour while you are trying to sort out your fucking brain chemistry in the short term. Modifying behaviour and identifying triggers to avoid the cycles which prompt the drives and desires in the medium term and long term coming to terms with having a weakness and trying to understand the root drives and desires behind that.

I'm guessing it is because you are bored. Online gambling must be addictive because it takes away all the fucking hideous baggage that comes from frequenting more traditional gambling dens.

It is hard to feel good about your addiction if you are hanging out with elderly bag men and other street drinking dross in the bookmakers day in day out. Ditto if you go to casio, man the elderly people clutching shopping bags dressed in cheap nicotine stained sportswear. Not exactly James fucking Bond.

Block the sites. Disable your easy sources of payment/funding for these sites and apps. When you get the urge to do it, go do something else until the urge goes away. Try and pick something which is motivating in itself and is a 'better' addiction. Like chin ups.

Thanks for the advice mate. I used to go to a nearby casino which is pretty much as you say. elderly semi addicted men spending their shit wages in the slot machines.
Also if I want to go to the casino I have to get out of the house which is a bigger step than just going online. Also less anonimous.

Gambling is indeed a cure for boredom. I work pretty much all day and since I got a better job I make more money, and I'm no big spender at all.

Like I said I blocked gambling websites on my laptop browser but I'm looking for a way to block them on my smartphone. Also might be a good idea to freeze my savings..

Yeah OP I've dealt with gambling addiction myself but its only been at a casino near me not online. I enjoy it because, like you, I have a lot of disposable income but don't really do anything with it. And I like going to the casino since it gets me out of the house and doing something with atleast a little social interaction, I don't really have people I can hang out with.

It was really getting out of hand though, I love blackjack but I guess I'm just not very lucky since all told I probably lost about 1500 bucks to it in just a few months. So I tried to find other things to do with my time like whenever I get the urge to gamble on my day off I go see a movie instead, much cheaper.

I also tried to change my finances by setting up a retirement fund for myself that I wont be able to touch until 2055 and put my savings into that, and set it so that it automatically takes money from my checking account every month, that way I have less cash on hand to blow so I'm not just going to the casino and spending my whole paycheck there.

I still go occasionally but whenever I do I make a point of going with cash in my pocket and leaving my atm card at home so even if I lose what I have on me I'm not going to go full degenerate mode and start gambling money I can't afford to lose.

Seems like you deal with it pretty good.
It is indeed disposable income. I don't really know what to do with my money. A few thousand bucks is just sitting there on a bank account and I have no idea what to use it for.
I wouldn't mind going to a casino like once a month. Also I hate blackjack lol.
