Because it's a good feeling to be healthy and fit. You can do things that less-strong people can't do. Like skiing. do you know how much that shit wrecks your legs if you're not in shape? You get to do a lot of fun things if you're strong.

You can get through life easily. Being maladjusted in the emotion department sets you up for a world of pain, anger, sadness and other unsavory feelings. Emotionally strong people have happy relationships with friends, family and significant others.

To defend yourself from circumstances that you have no control over. To protect yourself and the ones you love. To help others who are incapable of defending themselves.
Also exercise helps better one's mood, and that's just good for everybody: you as well as the people who have to deal with you.
