Relationships boil down to more than that, sex is what is promoted because that can be considered one of the rawest forms of emotion in the relationship(also society pushes its importance). Here's the deal, relationships come to dominance and confidence. A man's confidence in himself and a woman's confidence in her man. It's a woman's nature to test this, to make sure he's on his toes. As they're always looking to see if you're the best they can do. So you need to check her and remind her that you lead this relationship(while still showing love and affection). The problem is, over time most men get caught up in the gentlemanly thing and lovie dovie nonsense and become pussified. Their women see them as their equals and lesser than them rather than a leader.

Don't get caught up in showing them all of your love, rather love them but lead them in the right direction and impose your will.
