What are the steps I need to take to become a computer hacker with the minimum effective dose of knowledge and skills. I'm willing to work hard but not waste time.

Utter novice, programming forays not even worth mentioning, maths unused for years. 21 in uni, all I have is limitless Wi-Fi, ethernet and $50K.

I'm working through Learn Python the Hard Way, but I know this is a years-long process so would appreciate some guidance. I thought a lot of the hacker ethos was to have community support. This is the only community I know of that could help.
