So I had to live with a band of fujoshi, which, if you are unfamiliar with the term, generally means anime fangirls that obsess over homosexuality in anime and manga. These people were terrible. For years, I had to endure their general grossness and poor hygiene, but the worst part was that I couldn't read manga, watch anime or play any games without them all clamoring over how gay this guy was for that guy, the incessant giggling, the debating over what character ships were best and then I'd have to here that terrible clacking of their keyboards while they live-blogged about how gay every male character in everything was. It wasn't just anime and manga, either. Movies, TV shows, video games, books, literally EVERYTHING. They would ask to borrow my things simply because they read about some homosexual pairing in whatever it was they wanted to borrow, not because they were actually interested in it! Now anytime I see the slightest bit of interaction between male characters, all I can think about is exactly what these fujoshi would be saying. I personally have no problem with homosexuality at all, it's a free world. To each their own! Seriously. But I'm so tired of seeing things like a fujoshi myself. I didn't mind these things before at all. Not one bit. But after YEARS of it, non-stop, everyday, it became so fucking grating to the mind I can HEAR WHAT THEY ARE SAYING EVEN THOUGH THEY'RE GONE NOW, I WANT TO ENJOY MY HOBBIES AGAIN PLEASE HELP.
Alright, so, this may sound like a dumb suggestion, however, it may be a good idea to distance yourself from the whole anime-manga aspect for a while. Why not take this opportunity to try out other activities that you have put off before, or have had an interest in but didn't act on. Also, I don't think you should expect something that went on for years to simply go away so readily. I'm sure that it sucks, but it takes time to forget certain things. Good luck!

This was actually the first thing I did. I abandoned anime and manga for other things, but the problem was that it didn't matter what I was doing. I can't even order a drink when I'm out without thinking "I bet that guy is gay for the waiter over there." Then I proceed to enter an internal rage, remembering these horrible people, and then I'll just sit there, raging in my own head, looking like I'm having Vietnam flashbacks. Some of my newer friends have even asked if I served in the Army, some jokingly commenting on my "PTSD face."

Anyway, I think we need to take a step back and think a little about the issue at hand. What precisely is it about these thoughts that you can't escape that bothers you so awfully? I know this might be a personal question, but do you have something against homosexuals? While I don't think, or know really, that your issues are great enough to seek professional help, if they do continue on, and you simply can't handle it anymore, it may be one solution.

It's just that I associate homosexuality with these fujoshi, and when I do that, I remember how angry THEY make me, with their keeping me up at night blasting yaoi on the TV, making me stare at my ceiling instead of sleep, not people of homosexual orientation.

As someone who has been in social circles with a ton of fujoshi at certain times in my life, this phrase has served me well. The term fujoshi had not yet been coined (I called them slash-fiends), but it's the same principle. When the urge to ship rises, say the phrase, imagine a horde of fujoshi going SQUEE!, and let it go. It's much easier to dismiss when you can push it off onto the group that planted these seeds in your head.
