Everyone I have ever known has fallen ass backwards into a lucrative career. Friend is an accountant, zero university experience. Another friend is a welder. Never went to school, no qualifications. They all make anywhere from $20/hr to $35/hr. Now, some of you are undoubtedly reading this and thinking "But that money is shit, you can't even feed yourself on that!" Spare me. I make $11/hr. I want a good career. Just, somebody, please tell me what to go to school for, or some other way of making more than this. I get that it depends on the city, state/province, country... I don't care. Just say anything. I need an answer. I've even been to the university employed admins whose job it is to help people like me. They always ask the same thing.
"What do you like?" I like cooking, music and fucking. I'm not making any god damn money with either. Somebody please help me. I'm too old for fucking minimum wage. I DON'T KNOW WHAT I WANT TO DO. I DON'T HAVE A DREAM JOB.

So many kids fucked up with parents and shit telling people to follow their interests into a dream job. You COULD try to target a career in what you're already passionate about, but it's wiser to find what is in demand and bring your passion to that so you can do a good job.
Keep the lights on first, enjoy your hobbies when you're not working. If you have a hobby that has careers you can "fall backwards into" (chef or something?) then maybe casually pursue that when you're off. And this isn't saying just go to work and be miserable, just take pride in what you do.
If there's a careers centre or something in your town, ask them what's in demand right now in the trades. Or research online a bit.
Nowadays getting a good job is all about luck. Knowing the right people, growing up under the right circumstances, etc.

In my experience, you just need to work hard and be a cool person to the people around you. After awhile, people come to respect you; job offers just come in and you take the most well-paying one.
A friend of mine got hired at 10$ an hour in August 2013. He got promoted every year since then for being a hard worker knowing what the fuck he was doing. Right now he's making 17$ an hour and he was literally just offered a salaried position making 65k+ a year.
Who offered him that job? A coworker that had moved on and remembered him as a cool dude with a good head on his shoulders.

It's nearly impossible to just tell someone a career to go down. People are not created equal. There are some jobs that some people will just never be able to do. I don't know anything about you or your skills so it's hard to arbitrarily pick something.
Part of the problem is that you're already on a career path. If you're hard working and charismatic you could move on to management and make decent money.

'Cool' here mostly means pleasant to work with, and that can be done a few ways. You can either be the guy that makes work smooth and easy(you want this guy working on the important projects), the guy that keeps everyone on track and working together smoothly(this is the guy you want to be your foreman), or just the guy that makes work more bearable(doesn't actually have a whole lot going for him,but sometimes gets dragged along anyway cause the other 2 would rather not be without)
