Any advice or resources?

There are a couple subreddits that can give you a start like r/roomporn and r/scandinavianinteriors. The stuff you find on big blogsites like Apartment Therapy is 90% garbage but there's the occasional good idea worth hunting for in every photo set. Once you hone in on a particular style or theme which you prefer (minimalist, shaker, mid-century, etc.) then look for tumblrs which use those tags. It's one of the few ways in which tumblr is actually a worthwhile resource.

Also don't use that photo ever again. The Turkish news broadcast ruins it.

make everything or as many thing as modular and moveable as possible
- move things around, place them here, place them there, you like it here, you dont like it there, etc
- keep moving stuff until you find the right place
- keep wall colours neutral and plain
- if you want colour, get a colourful and bold object or piece of furniture and it will be highlighted
- move stuff regularly and eventually you will find stuff slowly will find their place
- also declutter - as you move stuff, you keep cleaning up and you will start to notice the things you never use, the things you dont like, the things you dont want around
- conversely, you might notice a place to put some old objects you had hidden before
- the thinking is, the more you touch everytihng around you, the more you appreciate your space and the more you will enjoy it

pinterest. also just googling 'cool rooms'.

i think the best thing you can do is sit down, look at all the cool rooms, then find the one that best matches your existing room in terms of floor, windows, lighting etc. for instance a white room with marble floors looks cool in the picture iwht the stuff in the picture, but wont go wit hyour more warm colored hard wood floors and brown walls.

painting is an option. but i assume you wont replace your floors. but if you have the money, you can.

anywho. once all thats decided (whether you can paint, replace stuff, etc) pick the room you want that matches that, and then slowly but surely start buying the pieces. a surplus of cash helps, but even if you can only do like the couches one month, and then tables a month later, thats okay. you are making a long term home. it takes time to make. but one little thing a month is the best option.

as soon as you got the photo you want to model after, immediately google search and look around at prices for simialr looking items. how much are those couches? whats the best deal on those carpets. whats the price on that crazy light? how much for a floating entertainment center? etc.

you can also think of what you'd like to replace. for instance, if oyu dont like books, why keep books on the shelf? instead replace them wiht personal trinkets you like. dont have anyone you love enough to frame in a photo? get little works of art you like.
