If nobody sought out child pornography there would be no reason (or at least a greatly diminished reason) to distribute it. With no reason to distribute it, those abusers who would make child pronography wholey or partly to make money, encouraged by the demand created by the viewers, would have no incentive (or at least diminished incentive) to do so.

Not at all alike - rape fantasies can be (and almost always are) produced without actually raping or otherwise harming anyone. There is no way to produce child pornography (unless it's drawn/animated, these ones don't need to be illegal in my opinion) without molesting children. It's amazing that I need to explain this difference.
Anyway, arguments about supply/demand aside, child porn should absolutely be illegal because, while I sympathize with decent people who have the misfortune of being afflicted with this urge, you have to be a piece of shit to enjoy real child porn, as you are taking pleasure in the actual rape of children. And doing so makes you enough of a threat to children to justify putting you away, because there is extremely little difference between indirectly enjoying the rape of children, and directly enjoying it.
