Need some answers /adv/ got caught trying to leave work with an SSD and was going to be fired until one of my cowrokers told me i could resign and leave a letter saying i'm basically quitting to find work elsewhere. I told my manager and he seemed to be okay with the idea, so basically i had two options either i quit on good terms or let them fire me with bad letter.I filled the letter of resignation and everything seems to be okay while i start looking for work elsewhere, will this bite me in the ass when using previous job as reference? I hear they can't give out any of that information since i went with the quit option instead of being fired. I was pretty cool with my manager and supervisors i left on good terms with them, thoughts?
pls respond, is my life fucked or can i move on with this hard lesson learned

I know some states have a zero tollerance for stealing and it ususlly puts you out of work. Or at least in my town that's what I heard. Previous employers can ask so it might be better to aim for mom and pop places to lay low?

So it kind of depends on your employer. No they can't say it as possible you were going to steal from them but when the next HR person calls your reference and asks if there is any reason they shouldn't hire you, your previous employer can literally laugh and then tell them your position and time in. They may not know exactly what you did, but they can tell that your a joke to your previous employer.

How does one give references to new employer? Do i give them contact info of my supervisors or just the company?

Usually you give them direct phone numbers to your managers. It could be the companies number but it would have their extension.

To add a perspective to consider: I was fired from my very first job as I had no idea where the fuck I was the morning after my prom. I literally found myself on a doggy bed in my hot rich classmates mansion (and went exploring afterwards). I no called no showed and was fired that next morning when I walked in. At my next job, not using the previous as a reference my old boss comes in and gives me his contact info telling me to use him as a reference for a future job. Hope this gives you something to consider.
