What is a thumbnail and how does it work /adv/?
Found two thumbnails of animal porn on my girlfriends phone after she gave it to me, I asked her about them and she said it must be from the previous owner of the phone, I checked the details and apparently the image was created whilst she owned the phone.
She claims she watched some bondage porn on her phone from time to time but never Animal porn, how could have this got on there? or is she just bullshitting?

Can anyone explain a thumbnail to me or how they work? Pretty much could have it come from the last owner but for some reason show as it saved in the thumbnail folder whilst my girlfriend owned the phone? Or could have it saved from a bondage site she may have been on, even tho she claims she only went to "normal" ones?

The thumbnail could be created by a media player she downloaded while having the phone. It could have found the video on her phone, and created one then. That being said it would have required her to have the video or pic at the time.
Its also possible that some app she had trolled her with a thumbnail.
I dont know if its just the thumbnail or more because youve explained what you saw so poorly.

I forgot the folder but it was in a folder that held pictures she had taken herself, in that was a thumbnail folder which had random pictures, some of us, some other photo's she had taken, and then some other odd pictures she claimed she never knew what they were, and then those two porn ones, they are just pictures and look like screen shots.
If don't trust your girlfriend then you'll have to dump her.

The thing is she would just watch porn on a website, watch videos on xtube and all. She would go to random sites whilst searching for porn on her phone.

What sort of applications would throw in these troll pics? We did use to download a ton of junk applications but not from the actual google play store, but never any dirty or bad ones.
The folder was called .thumbnails inside are two documents named .thumbdata and the images are all listed with numbers, the two animal porn ones and the ones she took herself

It is perfectly possible that the thumbnail was created if the file was there when she had the phone.
If the thumnail was created before then the date would reflect that.
That being said she would either need to still have the file on the phone somewhere or she deleted it once she found it.

I sort of trust her on this, but my doubts are there. Is it a high chance this came from the last owner, or a dodgy app throwing them in?
I saved the pictures i found to my computer and factory reset the phone when she gave it to me, It was only when i looked through the pictures that i found the animal porn ones, So i can't go back and check what else is on the phone, although i did have a thorough look when moving things and did not see anything out of order.

I am not certain that your browser can create thumbnails. Or it can but I dont think they do. Normally you need the file on your system.

Probably not. How ever mobile phones and mobile sites could be different. Try going to some site and seeing if it creates a thumbnail.
I highly doubt it will but thats just guessing. Or you could use your google fu to figure it out.

Now I think about it the pictures in the folder seem to be ones that she may have sent on an app like whatsapp to family members or friends.
Just a theory, but could this thumbnail folder be of images of shit shared on whatsapp?
If so that would at least mean someone sent these videos/pictures personally, or someone posted it in a group chat as a joke as she has group chats with class mates that talk about random junk, although she says she does not remember it and she probably never clicked it.

Most likely it's cached data from a site she visited or app. Meaning if there was an ad for horse porn on the site it could've downloaded it without her watching the video.
