It doesn't matter that you're getting a late start. I got a late start, so did a lot of my best friends. Yes, before I really figured out how to talk to people, esp. women, I really struggled with my self-worth, like, "why do I just exude awkwardness?" It got better. It wasn't an easy process but it got better.
There is a silver lining. It's up to you whether it makes up for the years you "lost" (they weren't really lost, though, just spent doing other things.) Most of the funniest, most interesting, most likable, most LIKED people I know today are all people who got late starts and had to develop their social skills the hard way. I truly, honestly think there's benefit in having to apply yourself to learn that sort of thing. It leads to a deeper understanding of what it means to be sociable, likable, and funny than you get from just lazily coasting through your early years relying on your natural charm. Take it or leave it; I'm just just saying this shit to comfort you, there's a real reward waiting for you if you keep pushing yourself and don't let yourself slide into bitterness.
