Guitar fags help. I played guitar for 8 years, haven't played in maybe 3. Anyway, I'm buying an acoustic to fuck around on and I don't know the difference between the ones with the strings closer to another vs. the ones with the strings slightly more spaced. What's the difference, if any? I mostly used an electric so I'm no complete acoustic expert. Also, nylon or not?
btw I've never had a gf fuck my life
Anyone...?

Surely Google would be better for such a technical question

Didn't really help, since my explanation sucks.

K, then just go into a guitar store and actually talk to someone then

T-thanks for the awesome advice... This board rules.

Lol, the fuck were you expecting? That shit is such a bizarrely specific question, I play guitars and have no idea what the difference would be. I'd assume there wouldn't be considering its the tension/thickness of the strong that gives it's sound and then the body of the guitar/pickups that amp the sound.

The guy in the store said that the wider neck ones weren't for using picks or something, or the other way around. I have no fucking clue, I was hoping someone other than the guy in the store knew about this. Apparently not.
it's just preference, though maybe it has a use like if the neck scale length is longer so they make the strings longer apart.
chords on a wider stringed neck are harder to reach but be easier to fret chords that involve open strings without accidently touching.
I prefer guitars with a thinner neck with lead guitar playing, but playing chords or acoustic (like classical) then a thick-ish neck is easier.
nylon and steel just have different sounds. I prefer the sound of nylon (sounds more bass-y) and think steel just has a 'ting' sound, plus playing on a steel string for me is harder.
just get whatever feels comfortable. nylon will usually be cheaper for a guitar if you jsut want cheap one to fuck around with.. even if you want a decent nylon but can't find it electric, you could buy a piezo pickup for it.

Thanks for explaining, I look for that when I test em' out.

Go buy a Yamaha FG700. Cost ya around $200 and lasts a lifetime.
Nylon string = classical music. It gives a warm tone so you can feel fancy when you're butchering your Bach preludes. You can also play flamenco on it and look even dumber.
Wide string spacing = fingerstyle guitar (usually solo pieces you play with your fingers). Easier to get your chubby fingers in the gaps to play each string without touching the other ones. Downside is neck is also wider so you can't have tiny baby hands.
How do you play guitar for 8 years and not know any of this.
