Hi /adv/

Tomorrow we have a christmas party at work, consisting of a dinner from 7:30pm around an hour away from my workplace., Another colleague suggested we all go to a cocktail bar beforehand for around an hour. Would it be autistic if I said I'm going to stay at the office and meet them at the restaurant. I don't like cocktail bars and the idea of them repulses me, plus I don't intend on getting drunk tonight since I don't like getting drunk, so I'd just be standing there.
>>
Thats pretty autistic. You'd rather be stuck in a boring office than god forbid hang out with your coworkers at a bar even if you're not drinking? You sound like a total mood killer, whats wrong with a cocktail bar? People like having fun.
>>
>>16575633
The concept of a "happy hour" repulses me, and I don't enjoy the sort of "fun" it promotes, i.e. standing in a loud, busy room with people talking loudly over throbbing music while drinking alcohol. I am a mood killer, but then why should I insist on killing the mood when i could just not go?
>>
>>16575639
Well...ok. Some people like the busy atmosphere and meeting people easily. You'd probably kill the mood if you did meet them at the restaurant later anyway because surprise, they're all still going to be drunk. And they will order more drinks. And restaurants are talkative and loud.
>>
>>16575647
I don't like restaurants either but I'm pretty much obliged to attend. Also our booking at the restaurant is only for an hour and a half, which isn't that long.

I don't like busy atmospheres. I don't like drinking alcohol. I enjoy one-on-one conversations with a cute girl, every other kind of social event is repulsive to me.
>>
>>16575653
Ok, anon. If you really cant weasel your way out you should be prepared even if its only booked for 1.5 hours these things usually run way over. And you should really look at why you're so angry and disgusted by "happy hour". Maybe you dont like it but it isnt hurting anyone and you will have to find a way to deal with being normally social because this isntthe last time you'll be expected to show up at a loud event.
>>
not wanting to go to the cocktail bar isnt autistic but your incessant and inappropriate use of the "repulsive" is problem a symptom of some other mental health issue though.
>>
>>16575670
Why do you think so?

Many things which were normal in the past have later been thought repulsive. Many cultural events are thought to be repulsive but people still support them. I'm not hurting anybody.
>>
>>16575678
You're not hurting anybody but this strong attitude you have towards a very normal thing is impacting your life in a negative manner ,if you cant even bear to hang out with your coworkers or anyone who isn't a 'cute girl'. So you really should try to get help about it
>>
>>16575678
sigh 5/10 because you got me respond twice

its not autistic because you clearly have some sort of social aptitude since you are being invited to social events. thus probably not autistic. now about your use of the word 'repulsive' on the other hand, i HIGHTLY doubt you're actually REPULSED by things that have been normal for the most of humanity since the beginning of time. but you continual use the word out of place makes me think youre retarded.

anyways, just say you have an errand to run in between work and dinner ffs. little cousin/nephew/niece has an appointment/practice that you have to drop them off at or something? friend needs help moving shit really fast?
>>
>>16575684
My strong attitude has only developed as a result of my being pressured into my doing something I don't want to do, and which isn't necessary for my existence. If someone asked me to eat feces I would developed a similarly "strong attitude" towards it.
>>
>>16575686
The concept of a "happy hour", i.e. portion of time dedicated to promoting and sustaining a single emotion, does repulse me. I want nothing to do with it. People like me, who are sensitive and appreciative of beauty, aren't the type of people the owners of these establishments are appealing to, and if they had the money to they'd no doubt create an advertisment depicting someone like me looking stupid and miserable in contrast to the denizens of their bar.
>>
>>16575690
Ok, i understand not wanting to be pressured. But thats unrelated to the bar itself. People being loud and drinking are not forcing you to do what theyre doing. I get peer pressure but this isnt high school anymore, you can say no. Do you avoid shops because the salespeople want you to buy things? You pribably had a bad experience and not trying to work through it is doing you more bad than good.

And you are not thinking rationally. No ones going to ask you to eat feces. BUT you will certainly be expected to attend social events like this for your future in your job etc. So you cant duck out of everything you need to find a way to deal with this in a safe manner

>>16575700
I'm not ducking out, however I don't want to seem like I'm making a point or trying to be awkward by saying "sure I'll come!" and then standing there not drinking while people talk (or shout) about their drinks and laugh at the names of the drinks. I don't like getting drunk. The taste repulses me, I can't talk properly, and so on.

I appreciate your replies however. I will go to the cocktail bar but say I'm not drinking. I will then go to the restaurant and drink coca cola (I'd rather drink water but I guess I have to compromise somewhere)
>>
>>16575690
thats because eating feces actually causes disease you fucking dingus. you actually have mechanisms that hard wire to you thinking shit is disgusting (unpleasant taste/smell etc). also you sound like a fucking bitch that just doesnt know how to say no.

>>16575693
>The concept of a "happy hour", i.e. portion of time dedicated to promoting and sustaining a single emotion

what the ever loving fuck are you talking about? happy hour just means cheaper drinks for an hour. thats it. drunkenness isnt an emotion retard, and now that youre saying more, you may in fact be autistic.

>People like me, who are sensitive and appreciative of beauty, aren't the type of people the owners of these establishments are appealing to, and if they had the money to they'd no doubt create an advertisment depicting someone like me looking stupid and miserable in contrast to the denizens of their bar.

yep, there it is. full fucking autism. do you not watch commercial for alcohol beveraged, they are full of models trying to promote trying as a cool thing to do? go to any bar/club/'high end' casino all the female bartenders/cocktail waitress are attractive and have nice boobs and a lot of those places are picky as fuck about the male employees and have a certain look they go for. post a pic nerd. youre not nearly as attractive as you think you are
>>
>>16575704
youre a faggot
>>
>>16575706
And alcohol doesn't? It's primary use was to ensure a clean drinking supply, not for charging an hour's worth of my wage to drink some tiny drink with a kooky name that I won't even like. Also plenty of people eat feces for erotic reasons, look at Germany and Haiti etc. My example isn't as farfetched as it seems. Also I didn't say I was attractive, if anything my lack of attractiveness is what guarantees my lack of fun at this kind of place. Also I don't appreciate the tone of your post, it's rude and I've told my mother what you wrote.
>>
>>16575708
Why do you and others care so much whether or not I drink alcohol? Why not just give me an option and accept the one I choose?
>>
OP here. I have a train to catch on Saturday morning, would it be "normal" or "okay" for me to use this as an excuse?
>>
>>16575704
Anon, i am worried about you and dont want you to feel uncomfortable/angry at these normal things that you should not feel resentment towards.. If you are worried about standing there 'looking stupid' no one is staring at you waiting for you to slip up. If anyone does they are not worth your time. You can go to a bar, not drink, and still have fun. Its not awkward or making a point if you say you dont drink but you wanted to enjoy their company/hang out. If you dont actually enjoy their company at all in any scenario then yes, make an excuse to just meet them at the restaurant later. I like your idea of drinking cola instead. You can also order just soda with lime, it looks like vodka anyway.

This may be a social anxiety issue however
>>
>>16575619
Don't tell them what you're going to do. Just say you have someplace you have to be and you'll meet them at the restaurant
