Who the fuck thought this was a good idea? There's a reason why you shouldn't be yourself around new people. Because chances are there might be characteristics about you that'll repulse everyone the second they get a wafting scent of them. So it's best to show off your better qualities before while slowly getting to know them -- and see if that takes you somewhere good, or you should abandon ship then and there.

And around women? What the fuck? I'll tell you what's going to happen if you try to be yourself around a girl you recently just met.

I usually let myself out when I first meet somebody, but not all the way. Over time I let myself out more and more and gauge how that goes over, and based on that reaction, i either pull back or do it more. yeah

Have you considered, you know, some personal growth? Being yourself only works once you've BUILT yourself.

It's the one problem I have with the "be yourself" advice: it's good, but we teach it to children when they're too young to understand this,

In the less dramatic version of this, being honest about my thoughts and emotions cockblocked me twice. In one instance, my emotions were too strong and made me look like a weak person. In another instance, I spoke my mind too loudly in this "politically correct" area and got labeled a minor bully.

If these girls were like, my ideal match, I'd probably do a small bit of filtering myself. I see the other extreme, faking your personality, has even more problems involved.
