Non-Chad here. I get most of my dates by talking to attractive women who are around me for some period of time. It could be a couple minutes standing in a long line at a store, however long she sits at a neighboring table at a coffee/food joint, someone I see every week at some kind of periodic recreational activity, etc. I guess the first point of difference I have with this guy is that I need at least a scrap of shared time.
The next difference is that I talk a bit first. Granted I can see where his note might come off as cutely funny, but I prefer to create humor and pleasant rapport through conversation. I just talk. I say something worth hearing, or something plain funny, or perhaps even an observation about something she's doing (like pointing out a mistake to a girl who was studying, just as this girl in the story was doing). Finally I try to make the invitation a little more alluring than "I find you physically attractive so let's have coffee." My "green light" if you will is to register the girl's interest in something about me. I don't go all-in based solely on my attraction. I'm talking to her because I'm interested; I'll ask her out if she seems engaged with our interaction. And never, ever would I say something as pathetically insecure as "7ft tell boyfriend." I'm a short fucker, too. That self-deprecation has no place.
