Socially inept people would find it awkward and wouldn't dream of it, thinking of it as weird. Mostly so with people around your age. However, if you can go, order an orange juice or something, hold yourself naturally and be confident in your ability to strike up a conversation, you'll be fine.

bring someone who's uncertain about everything even going to meet strangers. it's more fun that way. You could go alone but people often avoid solo/loners. Buying a drink is optional but be wary of how often your drink is outta sight. People do slip mickies thinking they'll get lucky.

I like to go to bars by myself, but then again, I drink.

I usually only go late if there is music. If there is music, there is nothing strange about being alone or about not drinkking alcohol.

If there is no music, I usually go for "happy hour" from like 5:30-7:30. Get a bite to eat, make small talk with others about the news, sports, etc.

As a female I have probably gone to a bar by myself once. I think the type of bars that you find in hotels and stuff that have sort of sit down armchairs, where businessmen go to relax after work I think it's fine to go there and drink alone. When I went it was some fancy hotel bar, I ordered a cocktail and brought a book, sat down and chilled. Soon enough a guy sat down next to me and by the end of the night me and the bartender had exchanged numbers.
