Honestly this is just a part of a much bigger. issue in modern society, that people are never satisfied with what they have anymore.
Let's say a girl or guy us dating someone who meets their standards but is pretty average, looks good but not amazing. Then someone better comes along and they leave their current partner if favor of the new one. Then things don't work out and now this person is expecting a new partner to be everything the past two were and more. It's a vicious unending cycle of dissatisfaction.
Just look at smartphones, most people use them for very simple tasks, almost any of the decent quality smartphones in the past year would do the job perfectly fine. But people still insist on getting the cutting edge, even if the only difference is a new color and name.
It's fine to have standards but the real issue is that people never seem to be content with what they have.
