I spent a shit ton of money and time and energy getting the tux, going to the girl's house, going out to dinner and all that bullshit and I remember nothing about the prom except I got chocolate on my suit and the DJ played terrible top 40 hits all night.
I'm gonna be real with you; prom is only magical if you're a fucking idiot or you're a character in an 80's movie. In real life its a bunch of pimple faced assholes in rented clothes paying hundreds of dollars to stand around in a room for 4 hours until its time to go home.

My prom date bailed on me and I felt like absolute shit and I didn't want to do anything, but my mom forced me to go anyway and I ended up having a great time. You can make memories at prom that last a lifetime whether you have a date or not.

For as far as I know school mainly had 2 kinds of people: the popular kids who barely passed but had the times of their lives, and the dudes who were just cool but not insiders and couldn't be bothered to fit in the larger group of popular people. Besides that you have the extremes on both sides of the spectrum, the cool guys who didn't give a shit and dropped out and the autistic sperges who were ignored.
Anyway I couldn't be bothered to follow the latest trends or interest myself in the thing the popular kids were interested in. I was very liked in the first 2 classes of middle school but that's because everyone was as immature as me. After that you become less and less relevant. Finally I was just known as that funny guy, I hung with the popular kids but I was never an insider. Sounds extremely gay when I say it like that, but it's the harsh reality we think about every day but never talk about.
Prom is fucking stupid anon. It is romanticized as fuck due to media. You are basically spending time with people who you see everyday in a venue for 3/4 hours.
