Is giving up a stable, well-paid job for a job which decently yet allows you to live abroad and see the world worth if? I am from an Asian family, and my parents will certainly be against it as they want me to live close to them and give them part of my income. Is making such a decision immoral or naive?
>>17316845
Not really.
If you had kids, and they had the same opportunity, would you rather they stay at home with you?
What's the point of living if you're not willing to take risks and embrace adventure? Your family will still be there, and you'll still be able to visit/move back home. Your job opportunity, however, may not be as permanent.
>>17316878
And your point is? Sorry, am a bit drunk with alcohol at the moment. Be more explicit
>>17316884
My point is that your family will always be there. There is no obligation for you to stay at home and be a wage-slave for your parents.
You have an opportunity to explore the world, something that the majority of people can only dream about. Don't squander it because of your parents' outlandish traditional demands.
What do you do when you run out of motivation?
I don't want to go to the gym any more, I don't have the energy to draw or improve. I'm just tired and I find it hard to summon the will to do anything but play video games.
you take whats called a "break" or a "vacation"

And what, does it all come back?

RARELY does someone find a hobby that they stick with for the rest of their lives. It will comeback but eventually you'l lose it and find another hobby
Hey, /adv/(speaking to girls), my gf told me she has never had an orgasm before. We talked about it and did some research and found that she is kinda stuck in a stage of sex called "the plateau phase" described as the stage of high sexual excitement that just goes away and builds back up and this can occur several times and is the stage right before the orgasm. She says she just always stays on this stage of getting really close and all the feeling just goes away and she stops after about 10 min. Of the back and forth. Do you or have you ever experienced this? What...

I'm an English-Business dual major- yes because I like the arts and dislike the sciences. I bet many people here would say "you knew engineering earns the most money, you should've just sucked it up and went with that, you spoiled whiny brat". Sorry, no thank you. I see too many the depressed engi majors here with that "money must be everything, right?" mindset, and I see them in real life as well.
The point is, I like what I'm studying, and I'm not switching, but I want to be able to actually survive using my eventual piece of...

>>17316739
Well sorry about that, being continuously mocked for going the arts route does that to you, I do live in an Asian country. And a lot of boards here are extremely pro-STEM. Here, the arts are underfunded and there's no clear path and funnel for people going this route, unlike the sciences here and the arts scene in NYC. The "why you no doctor" stereotype about Asian society is actually quite true. But for all its flaws, this is still my home, so I do want to try making things work here.

*(not the one she cheated with)
sorry. also, bump.
No, it's not ok.
The reason it's not ok isn't that you're cheating on your partner, as she clearly doesn't give a fuck about you.
The reason it's wrong is because it's a lowly way out and shows no self-respect.
Tell your gf it's over and not to contact you again. Pursue the new girl with the knowledge you finished the thing on your own terms and you'll have peace of mind as a result.
>>17316723
Its fine. Who cares? Obviously she doesn't since she cheated on you.
Ever since I was a kid the people here have been attacking me. I know now kind of why but I don't understand.
This place is corrupting my thought processes by trying to make me think of stuff I find to be disgusting and offensive. Like homosexuality for example. The first time I seen such concepts it was offensive to me.
Then as the years progressed such people kept associating such concepts with what's desirable.
For example, the word gay used to mean happy but them homos started using it to describe themselves. So when I see or hear the word...

You sound paranoid as hell my man, remember to take your meds. You're not important enough for everyone to be making a conscious effort to ruin your life.
>>17316644
It's that type of tactic the molester use. To try and seem clever while insulting. It's like retard reality where the dog shit people just constantly provoke until you despise certain types.
You need to take a long hard look at yourself OP
>Ever since I was a kid the people here have been attacking me
You're anon here, there's no way to tell one person from the next. If people have been "attacking you", it would have been for something you said, not something you are.
>This place is corrupting my thought processes by trying to make me think of stuff
Maybe you need to take a step back and realize that people are not "trying to make you think of stuff"....

Girlfriend of 2 years isn't as affectionate as I'd like her to be. I don't need to be constantly showered with love and adoration, but to have her return affection more often - or take some initiative would be great.
I've told her of this a few times, but I'm obviously wasting my breath. She finds some initiative for a couple of days at best, and then we wind up right back where we left off. It hurts because I've been with a lot of girls, and she's the only one that I've genuinely fell for, but committing myself to her for so little...

Make her wonder where you are, what are you doing, with whom, don't tell her anything, respond on text after an hour (get yourself busy).

You're the type of person who thinks that telling someone to "Be mysterious" constitutes valid relationship advice, aren't you?
Is there an efficient way to prevent people from liking things I don't like?
I mean it's not like I can just politely ask them to alter their tastes, and it's becoming increasingly hard for me to just not care.
become either an extreme right wing or extreme left wing activist

I am a 26 year old virgin who has never had gf.
Is it too late for me to start dating?
>>17316598
not at all, but the question is do you want to?
why have you not had a gf before now

Because I am very reclusive and have almost no social life. It's a lifestyle that has become habit.

I am in a pickle. I met this chubby puerto rican girl. She isn't like super fat or anything but she is clearly over weight. We have a ton of stuff in common but I just don't want to be seen in public with her.
I realize that's super fucked up and not fair to her but I am a black guy and hate stereotypes. People will think "oh typical black guy only able to date fat women."
Help... All I ever feel is shame when I meet a woman I like. I have not went out with her yet. Lately we just kind of text over the phone.

2. stop being 16
Alcohol has destroyed my dad's life and he's been sober for a couple of years but he started drinking again recently. When I found out he started drinking again I tried talking to him about it but he just agreed with me and tried to avoid the topic. I don't know if I got through to him or not. I'm worried for him and I feel helpless. I don't know what to do.
>>17316570
Sorry to hear about your troubles, OP
Cutting to the chase, I think you need to identify:
>what has caused him to go back drinking
>what was it that kept him clean all this time
>what is it that could make him come clean this time
Talk to him again. Don't let him avoid it
At the very least, remind him of the trouble it caused his life before, and that it's going to be easier to stop and find help to stop now than it is even in a weeks time
If he is sober in the mornings and somewhat understanding that he's on a slope, there's a medication he can seek (disulfarim) that he can take when he's sober, and will make him incredibly, incredibly uncomfortable should he have any alcohol later in the day
>>17316604
Failing that, do what I did at an early age... Stop caring for him. Don't worry for him. Don't feel helpless. Fuck him and get on with your life
I'm doing just fine
>>17316612
THIS THIS THIS
I really hope things work out OP, but the sad fact is that a lot of these situations don't end well and you need to prepare yourself for that possibility.
I tried everything I could to help my dad through his struggles with alcoholism and drug addiction, but it was ultimately all for nothing. I wasted so many years caring for him and completely neglecting my own problems. I now struggle with a lot of mental issues from all those years of stress, and I doubt I'll ever be totally...

How do average normal people know the proper way to do everything without resorting to /adv/ or the internet? Do other people tell them? Is it all trial and error? Or do they get it right the first time because they are born normies?
You know, things like how to kiss or what to do in a date or what do I do with my hands.
>>17316563
Read a book. There are books on etiquette and self help for FREE at the library, which may even have eBooks, if you think you're too cool for the internet.
>>17316563
From what I've noticed of my normie friends, they rely on one-sided psuedopsychological life sayings that only apply within their situation and not universally.
When my best friend went through a break up, she'd just repeat things to get her through it like "I'm just gonna do what makes me happy." and "chicks before dicks." and "he had a small dick anyways."
Just real fuckin liberating repetitive shit mantras. I think they commit and fake it until they...

You just gotta go do it. Almost all of it's trial and error with some advice sprinkled in.
When I ask for advice on here, it's something that couldn't be answered on a specific forum, but I've made less threads over the years.
The more you do something though the easier it becomes. Doing something new the first time is almost always going to be the hardest because you don't know what to expect.
Would taking up a martial art really improve my confidence and general self worth? I'm not looking to get ripped, or even be able to beat people up, just really need something to give me some sort of confidence to do things with my life and not view myself as a useless piece of shit.
Also, is it a pathetic thing to take up at 26?
>>17316560
It's a pathetic thing to be on this site at 26. But yeah, do it cuz muh eccentricity
>>17316560
It might help, but it requires the deepest commitment, the most serious mind. Martial arts are a way of life…perhaps it is just the guidance you need. Just make sure you find a legit school.
