Its variably implied in Doom materials that the marines there had augmentations as well, which isn't surprising given the very first inspiration was Aliens and other dystopian/cyberpunkish futures where that sort of shit is pretty much standard issue. Unfortunately the arcadey nature of the early games basically makes it impossible to get a definitive baseline of how hardcore original Doomguy was for purposes of comparison.
Quake 3 was officially stated to be hugely non-canon for any of the characters, which goes hand in hand with giving a strogg tank derivative identical stats to human soldiers.
By and large attempts to justify who's better boils down to embarrassing fanwank.

I hate Halo's gameplay. You have to spend so much time looking for cover, ducking down, and waiting for your shields to recharge that it never gets all that exciting.
That kinda thing would get you killed in Doom. You have to constantly be on the move, hunt for health and ammo, figure out the right weapon to use, and come up with plans on the fly.
Halo just doesn't give you that sense of fast-paced excitement.

Random worldbuilding musing:
Kind of tempted to have all the bug-monster enemies from Doom 3 be their own faction. Vagaries, Trites, Cherubs, it just feels kind of right to have them be their own unique grouping in hell.
My concern is of course, limiting potential waifubility for the AU. Im just sort of thinking this over as a possibility.

Makes sense to me.
Vagaries are, by all indication, "normal" demons instead of "boss" ones (Their bodies burn away upon death, for example)… and yet they only appear once in UED territory, with all other encounters in Hell or abandoned Hell Temples. So they aren't (quite) rare, but are almost completely uninvolved in the invasion of Mars. They also are only seen in Doom 3 and its expansions, absent from the rest of the Doom mythos.
Unless they're behind the scenes pulling strings (hah hah bad spider pun) on the Hell side of the portals, they probably have little to no affiliation with its armies. Curiously enough, they're also (marginally) more dangerous than the average Hell Knight, which - combined with their mobility - can explain why they're still semi-autonomous.
With Hell having been emptied both by the failed invasion and the new "rehabilitation" program going on, their population could be on the rise… with a noticeable split between those tempted to join the UED, those wanting to consolidate in Hell instead, and those (either sans- or post-treatment) going "fuck y'all making my own home". So you have a three-way tug between those trying to integrate, those posing trouble more for Hell loyalists than the UED, and those scattering the Martian wasteland making their own little Vagary-and-Trite fiefs

My general idea is there's "The Hive", one of the major power players in hell after the major destabilization brought about by the IOS's death.
Generally more savage and predatory than other hell sects, pretty much focused on propagation and feeding, rather than "conquest" and any demonic religion motivation.
Vagary's on top, trites/ticks as the major populous/soldiers, and cherubs as the workers. I also have ideas about what a matured cherub would look like, theorizing that in Doom3 all the player encountered were ones in their larval stages.
Of course there are Vagary defectors though cuz mm-mm spider titties.

I think Vagaries were ultimately related to Arachnotrons from a dev perspective, so you could make a case for them being a cousin species sort of like maggots and imps. Plus that way you get to have two spider-themed waifus, Vagaries more commonly going the drider "spider centaur" route while Arachnotrons might err on the six armed humanoid style of spider-people to give some differentiation.
Perhaps demons that transformed to the style usually favored by the other species get pouty if you misidentify them.
Given that one of the main distinguishing factors would be vagaries having several eyes whereas arachnotrons only have two, correctly identifying them despite having an unusual body form might be something they find touching/flustering, since it means you noticed their eyes.
You could conceivably justify retaining the classic spider mastermind/arachnotron leg styles for four of the six arms as there being a sizeable nerdy gearhead contingent of transformed arachnotrons who like their utility for gripping large machine parts mechadendrite style.
