Edit and Toon Slavery thread
All artfags and writefags welcome
ITT a shared universe for artists and writers is under construction. Basics already established to follow in the next thread, but they're more like guidelines than rules.
Basic ideas for a fictional shared universe that sprang from the last thread were as follows:
1. Toons exist as per Who Framed Roger Rabbit, but are enslaved by the entertainment industry as "intellectual property".
2. Someone found a way to edit and modify toons in body (and possibly mind?) and so started using toon women as sex slaves.
3. There's a thriving black market for toon slave girls, including those from CG, anime, or vidya.
4. A slowly spreading affliction may or may not be turning human women into toons through unknown means.
5. Though editors may or may not learn how to edit toons (and humans) remotely in the near future.
5a. This may or may not lead to mass panic and witch-hunts being carried out towards those with the skill and equipment to edit toons, while women nationwide (if not on a larger scale) are turned into fetish bait in mass numbers.
Don't really want to pull the thread too far from art, but if anyone wants it I could post some world-building writefaggotry.

Use layers, one layer for fills, another for lines.
Use another layer to sketch what you're about to do if it's complicated.
I usually also have one layer above the original where I paint/clone over parts I want removed.
I like using the line/curve tool in paint.net for making smooth lines. I usually go over the lines at least twice to give them a bit of variation in thickness, but other painting programs have that built in.
If the original is blurry or grainy, as the last step, blur or add noise to the edited lines. You probably have to eyeball it to make it match the original. I also like using the frosted glass filter in paint.net with some 0-2 pixel maximum radius for a bit of noise and blurring if the original requires it.
You can probably find better advise if you watch a couple of digital inking an painting tutorials on youtube. It's the same thing, really, except you're not creating something from scratch.
Also: If you can see that it's shit yourself, you don't have to post the final result. Consider it an exercise.

Except for some filters I would stick to Sai for these edits. The pen tool in Photoshop isn't that great compared to Sai's vector based linework. Plus filling in the shapes works better too. Unless you aren't using a graphics tablet then your just fucked.

What the hell, here is an example
The top left image is the "original"
The top right is where I made my edit. Notice how the edits are clean compared to the base image.
I then extract the alpha channel from my edits and save it (middle row, left)
Then I save the edited image, with my edits, as a jpeg. (middle row, right) The original becomes even worse (compare the top of the second "L" or the "A")
I then apply the alpha channel to the saved file (bottom row, left)
Then I apply the artifacted edits on top of the original (bottom row, right)
Now both the edits and the original are equally artifacted.
