I sort of took my design cues from the H-doom sprites, because I picture them being given a blanket standard makeover when crossing over, due to being too unintelligent to fill out the desired-makeover form.
And they're a protected species, and are treated like pets by chosen responsible care-givers. But they are ALSO found to be very receptive to dairy-production enhancements, and make fantastic milk-producers, as has been discussed in earlier threads.

OK, so, personal Fic/headcanon thoughts on this
In doom-mates, Demons in hell DID have gender (Most species at least), but besides the Tab A/Slot B parts, not a lot of gender dimorphism, so there wasn't much cultural attachment to gender as a concept.
So, when the Big Migration happened, and the makeovers were a thing, a lot opted for the option that, from what they were told, would make them more appealing to humans, so a lot of females enhanced their traits, or males became females, etc.
But there were plenty who remained male, or decided to mix it up because they had no idea why gender was important so why the fuck not. I just haven't covered it much in the main fics yet.
I'll admit I've never sat down to play the Doom trilogy, but these threads have made me want to to do so. Fucking love non-human girls.
