This was the sprite art someone made after I released the "demo." I still have the PSDs too with all the various layers. Pretty good, the faces are bit too off from the real thing though. I really wanted to nail the series' art. Like Something Unlimited did with aping the Batman/Superman TAS. Tried to get in contact with whoever made them, but never got a response. Would have been nice, having a capable artist would have really got me focused. I'm just no good on my own.
Last major thing I worked on was months ago trying to plan out the character progression stuff. What events would they have, how many variations of each, jobs and what not so I knew what I would need to write for. Also planned out the Money/Exp gain to go along with it. It's kind of fucking huge though. Probably too huge.

Ok guys, I've made a decision here. The animation stuff I've been working on is taking way too long, and I don't think it's fair to leave you completely without updates until it's sorted, so I'm skipping some of that for now. If I released it exactly like it is right now it would be a literal horror show with bits animating all over the place, and I wouldn't want to subject you to that, so instead I'm going to remove the animation code and replace it with the older stuff, which still works fine, and put out a version 0.96d that is mainly a few bug fixes (like to the dating scenes), some minor tweaks, and a couple of new costume pieces.
It's nothing major, so if you'd like to skip it, that's fine, but it's something at least. I'll continue to work on the animations and hopefully get them out in a few more weeks. In the meantime, I plan to get version 0.96d out in a week or so.

I know, I know, I said I'd have it today. Problem there is I haven't been able to work directly on the project. My Tumblr-Post PTSD has been acting up, and thinking is one of my biggest triggers.

Calm down, I said directly. I'm quickly realizing Fungus fucking sucks for what I want to use it for. That realization led me to realize I need to learn a whole hell of a lot of both computer science and Unity code. I've managed to work around some of the problems in Fungus, but for something like the kitchen it's looking like I'll just have to buckle down and design that from the ground up, which I don't have time to do for this release. On top of this, I've been doing a lot of the pen-and-paper work required to make sure the game isn't a cobbled together monstrosity at the end. So, work is being done on the game, just nothing that's immediately tangible on the user-end of things. But, who gives a shit? I know I wouldn't if I was a consumer, I just want my toy! So, I'm going to put aside the behind the scenes shit and write up a little scene or two. I''m just going to have it accessible right of the bat for a number of reasons, mostly because once again, the actual gameplay part of the game is a fucking disaster at the moment.
tl;dr: I'll implement what I can, but in the mean time I'm going to go back to the part of this process that I actually enjoy and write up a smut scene before I loose my mind.
Anyway, for the one two two people who care I figured it's better to keep you updated with what's going on, rather than leaving you in the dark.

Doing this can be hard. Especially since the current business model is so willy-nilly, and people are willing to throw money at the most bullshit projects. It's really easy to fall into the camp of "Oh, I'll set up a patreon and try to make some money off this", either to fund the art that is needed for these things, or just a blatant cash grab. With that comes expectations, and with expectations comes pressure to deliver. Some people can buckle under that pressure. If you look at the early era of the games industry as a whole this is fucking insanely common, doubly so because most of the people who seek out this kind of work are the kinds of people who are socially outsiders or outcasts.
If tropic is reading this, stop picking fights and shitposting on other people's work, and stop going incommunicado. If problems come up, keep your audience informed as to what's happening. If you need to delay for one reason or another, just let people know why instead of keeping people in the dark.
I'm not a fan of topic right now. Never really have been, mostly because of how he handles himself when he's trying to be the public face of a project. Since he keeps making promises he can't fulfill, it's hard not to wonder what his motives are: to make something good, or to make some easy cash by tricking people. Akabur's no fucking slouch, though. It's easy to shit on the dude, but he's been doing this for a decade or more. His early flash works are, what, maybe 3 minutes of "game"? The big problem is these people get into the thick of shit with no understanding of project scope. They try to hit a home run right out of the gate, and want to turn into successes over night. Shit don't work like that. It's why I put the fault more on the people who fund them, rather than the people who are e-begging. It's easy to say "you should know better than to ask for money for this bullshit", but that wouldn't be an issue if people didn't just throw their money away to begin with.
I think tropic is just in over his head, and he needs to get the fuck out of the swimming pool before he drowns. I'm way past believing him when he throws out a release date. Everyone starts over their head. Game development starts with jumping in feet first, learning as you go. The difference is not everyone makes bold claims about how lazy other devs are and how much better their product will be. Not everyone opens a Patreon FIRST and delivers the game SECOND.
And that's why you shouldn't stick up for these chumps. They're profiting off of lies and mediocrity many times that which they accused akabur of. People backing Akabur after they played and enjoyed his games makes perfect sense. Alright so after I have spent a tireless day looking at google trying to find a walkthrough of Malise and the Machine to do the stupid circuit thing I came up empty I have tried to figure out what people say when the go ABC and shit like that but it makes no sense so if I could get like a clear and precise way of doing it or just give me some better idea then oh it works off of a grid... Literally the only dev that hasn't shit on Akabur also happens to be the one actually releasing regular updates. UE also seems to have a good grasp on scope which is why I think he delivers updates on time.
Might just be because he's got experience with big long projects as a writer but he comes off as professional and it's just nice to see. I honestly don't know how or why he's doing all of it without a patreon. Especially since we know how tough development is.

I like his games, I think WT is lacking content, and that his CGs don't match the quality of his character sprites, and that there are too few of them in his games in general.
Also I've decided against posting completed CGs here, so as to save the proper reveal for demo and final releases. What I'll be doing instead is posting the initial sketches of a few of the CGs leading up to the release of the demo starting with this one.

That's the thing though. What is an Akabur game without content? Earlier stuff aside, dude was making a healthy living when he was making WT, enough for it to be his job. Spending ~8 hours a day for most of every week for a year (you know, like a job), and producing so little content when he has experience in doing this and is capable of the quality he CAN make, really should have resulted in a much better game. The fact that chunks of the game were left less than half-completed and that he can do so poorly in the face of criticism certainly doesn't help.
That said, while Akabur is a huge shit, that doesn't mean his critics can't also be worse. People stepping up on their internet podium to declare "I can do better..donations are welcome" and then blatantly show they can't do better makes those people huger shits, but that doesn't excuse lackluster work ethic from Akabur just because he eventually did put out a couple games over the years.

Yeah, I've had that thought. Having all the save/load, text rewind, and a lot of other little features already there for me is really appealing. I have done some work in Ren'py before, and I've found the visual interface of Unity just works better with my brain. Even though I'm a lot more familiar with Python, and I could probably do what I wanted with it if I buckled down and just did it, it's a good excuse for me to learn another language while I'm at it. Plus, there are a few mini-games and mechanics I'd like to add, and Unity seems like an easier tool to use to implement them.
What it comes down to is I'd rather jump in head first into the hard shit. I like the challenge of trying to reinvent the wheel. It's selfish to say I'm not really worried if this game ever truly gets art, or even fully completed, but I'm just not. Realistically, it's never going to have quality art, because I'm not going to ask people to pay for it. Since I'm not trying to make money, I get to do this project just for me. And for me, the process of learning and practicing skills is more important than the end product right now.
I only post it up here to keep myself honest, and to give the few people who do deal with all the bad aspects of the game something to fap to.
