Other races lived in the Stacks too, but they tended to stay away from Sha'dee population centers. Even with their high mortality rate Tetra's race bred like rabbits, and expanded rapidly and tenaciously, hence the hives. There was a limit, naturally: expand too far on existing structures and corporate forces would firebomb them from the air, like exterminators destroying a wasp hive. Which was probably the origin of the bombed-out structures.

They reached Tetra's building, and Ed found a parking balcony that had a space or two still vacant. He landed the car between two others, highly modified skidboxes like his own. His type of racing, colloquially known as "canyon running", had started as a spiritual descendant of a form of landcar racing on Earth called "drifting". It had been developed in actual canyons on the frontier, but was extremely popular among Sha'dee living in slums like this, which replicated the tight turns and mazelike courses of a true canyon run. Their relatively light weight and extremely fast reflexes made Sha'dee naturally suited for it, and it had become deeply ingrained in the culture. While their original language and culture had been destroyed long ago when the Conglomerate burned their libraries and exterminated their intellectuals, you couldn't stop a species from developing unique culture, although not for lack of trying.
Ed popped the door locks, and Tetra climbed out, grabbing her bag and walking towards the entrance to the building without a word.
"Tetra? Wait..." She heard him call out. Her face crumpled and her ears drooped, but she forced herself to press on. She wanted to turn around more than anything, but she was too scared.
"Please? I just wanna apologize... I didn't mean anything by it, I swear... I just... You were interesting, and... I thought you were cute..."
The bag slipped from her hands and she turned. Ed pricked up as she approached him, and was about to say something more when she hauled open the door and tapped the parking lock, causing the steering yoke to retract into the dash. She leaned in, placing her hands against the seat on either side of his head and kissed him hard on the lips. He recoiled at first, then pushed back into it, embracing her and devouring her face. She broke apart from him, and tapped the magnetic zipper on her jumpsuit, letting it fall open and stepping out of it.

"What's going on?" She asked, staring about. Everyone else was already up and half-dressed, scurrying about to push barricades up against the windows and retrieve Kalashs* and shotguns from hiding places in the walls and floor. "Mercs?!"
"No, no, not Mercs, Niners." Saadra explained, grabbing a rifle and chest rig from a nearby brother. "If it was Mercs we'd be dead already."
"Kodo bastards." Tetra snarled, pulling on her coverall as Saadra strapped on the chest rig and slapped a magazine of 9mm slugs into the old gun. The Niners were a local gang, composed mostly of Kodo and Glegans who made their living jacking cars and selling narcotics and blackmarket weapons to other Xenos. They weren't particularly fond of the Sha'dee, who were generally wealthier than them by virtue of being higher on the Conglomerate totem pole. On top of which, Sha'dee colonies were very insular and clannish, preferring to do business internally or with other colonies, which hurt the Niners' profit margins when Sha'dee took over more territory. Probing attacks like this were not uncommon; the Niners would drive by and shoot up the outside of a building until they were driven off. They didn't dare land and try to get inside: fighting Sha'dee in close quarters was a losing proposition for anyone other than armored Humans.
*["Kalash" is a slang term for junky, outdated automatic railguns of the type typically sold on the streets. Before she could reply, they heard the roar of a turbine and Tetra reflexively dropped to the ground as a torrent of bullets careened through the window and tore apart the far wall, sending splinters flying. One of her brothers took a round in the shoulder and toppled over, swearing and clutching his wound. Saadra and the others roared in anger and started firing out the windows. Tetra clapped her hands over her ears and winced at the thunderous crackling of the railguns. Two others had grabbed the injured male and were dragging him out of the room, and she noticed that his rifle had been left behind. She crawled over and picked it up. It was heavier than she had expected, and slightly too large, clearly designed for a Human.
Tetra scooted over to the nearest vacant window, crouching over and wincing as bullets and chips of concrete flew over her head. She tentatively raised her head, peeking over the windowsill and ducked back down immediately as a shower of bullets slammed into the sill. There were three vehicles, two souped-up sedans and a van, zooming in and out of their field of view with Kodos firing out the windows.
"TETRA! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?" Saadra shouted over the chaos, ejecting her spent magazine and cramming in a new one.
"HELPING!" Tetra yelled back, indignantly. There was a break in the enemy fire, and she took the opportunity to pop up and brace her rifle against the window. She had never fired a gun before, but she had a general idea of how it was supposed to work. The van came in for another pass, and Tetra placed the reticule where she figured the driver would be, then pulled the trigger.

She had not expected the recoil. The gun fired off a burst and slammed into her shoulder, causing her to jerk the trigger again inadvertently and the cycle to repeat, canting the gun violently upward and spattering the ceiling with bulletholes. She staggered backward and dropped the rifle, and was about to reach for it again when something smashed into her left arm and sent her spinning to the ground. White-hot searing pain shot through her arm and she clutched it as tears welled in her eyes. When she lifted her hand away, it was slick with blood. She stared at it and started to whimper and hyperventilate. She grabbed the wound again and curled up in a ball, her mind racing with panic. It hurt so much, making her entire arm throb. She thought she heard someone screaming her name, but everything was becoming hazy and muffled as she went into shock.
Strong hands grabbed her by the shoulders and dragged her across the rubble-strewn floor. She was pulled out the door and down the hall, deeper into the complex where more concrete walls protected them from the enemy fire. Her panic started to fade and her vision and hearing became sharper, revealing a concerned Saadra shaking her and staring into her eyes.
"Tetra! Tetra! Come on, snap out of it!" Her Colony-sister's voice cut through the haze. "You're OK, you're OK, it's just a graze!"
Tetra looked groggily down at her arm and started to panic again at the sight of blood spreading across her coverall. Saadra slapped her lightly on the cheek, bringing her back.
"You're gonna be fine! Hold still!" The older female grabbed Tetra's arm and lifted it up so the wound was above her heart, applying steady pressure to slow the blood loss. Another Sha'dee skidded to a halt next to them and dropped a first aid kit on the floor, popping it open and pulling out a field dressing. Tetra looked away and clenched her teeth as he applied the dressing and wrapped a bandage tightly around it.

It stung at first, but the pain started to subside as the topical anesthetic in the dressing worked its magic. Her breathing slowed and she began to calm down.
"What the hell did you think you were doing!?" Saadra scolded, crossing her arms and glaring at Tetra. Tetra scowled and looked down, swallowing dryly.
"Helping..." She muttered, not wanting to meet Saadra's eyes.
"We had it under control! You're not a fighter, Tet', you should have left it to us!" Saadra sighed with worried exasperation. "Stay here. Don't move!"
Tetra laid back against the wall and continued to stare at the floor, nursing her arm. The others scrambled out of the passageway and back towards the sounds of battle. After a few minutes she heard an explosion, and the gunfire started to slacken, then petered out entirely. She waited a while longer until she felt her strength begin to come back to her, and got to her feet. Her head swum for a moment until she got her bearings, then staggered back into the sleeping room. It was a huge mess, with bits of wall paneling and chunks of concrete strewn everywhere. There were pools of drying blood on the floor where she and others had fallen. She felt bile rise in her throat as her eyes fell on two bodies laid flat out under sheets, and turned away, blinking back tears. She sensed Saadra's signature coming up behind her, and stepped back into the other girl's embrace.
"You alright?" Saadra asked, gently. Tetra nodded, her ears drooping.
"Who was it?" She asked, voice breaking slightly.
"Kelder and Hessa. It was quick, they didn't suffer."
"Did you get the bastards?" Tetra choked, fighting the urge to cry.
"The little cars got away, but we shot down the van." Saadra whispered sadly, rocking her gently to and fro in her arms. "The others got shot up pretty good, they won't be back for a while."
"Assholes!" Tetra sobbed, screwing her eyes shut and balling her hands into fists.

Alright, here's the basics.
The year is 2769, the location is the Milky Way. Due to a fluke of timing, Humanity just so happened to be the most technologically advanced race in existence at that time, as a galactic extinction event had wiped out most of the advanced races that evolved before us, and most species don't make it past the atomic age anyway. When the 2nd Space Race kicked off in the late 22nd Century with the perfection of the Alcubierre Drive, corporate interests expanded faster than Earth's governments could keep up. Eventually, ten of Humanity's most powerful corporations decided government was an unnecessary burden and invaded Earth, destroying the old governments and forming a new, pseudo-governmental body known as the Conglomerate, a meta-corporate entity which kept the smaller companies and individuals in line through economic pressure and force of arms.
The Conglomerate began a process of extremely rapid Human expansion over the next 200 years, spreading across the Galaxy and conquering any alien race they encountered. Those which were useful (i.e. the ones that could live in an earthlike environment and were easy to control) were assimilated, their history and culture eradicated and their leaders and intellectuals purged. Those that were not were exterminated with extreme prejudice. The Executive Board controls everyone through a system of social pressure and engineering, keeping the races pitted against eachother and destroying anyone who gets powerful enough to challenge them, while shaping culture through their control of the media, the internet and their pseudo-religion, the First Galactic Church. Cont.

They push a message of Human Supremacy, anarcho-capitalism (at least in name) and galactic manifest destiny, and were able to successfully eliminate all opposition and rule with an iron fist for centuries. However, with each generation the Executive Board gets more and more disconnected from reality, until their descendants have pretty much given up actually ruling, leaving that business to the Sector Admins and the infamous Arbiters of the Board, 500 year-old cyborgs who were created by the original Board to serve as enforcers and generals in the various conquests. The Conglomerate has been stagnant for the last 300 or so years, with no real progression in technology or culture, and is slowly starting to crumble under the weight of its own corruption and bureaucracy. More and more companies are engaged in infighting over markets, as expansion has ground to a halt and they've run out of aliens to conquer, forcing them to feed their military-industrial complex by fighting eachother.
Sensing weakness, Xenos and poor Humans began to revolt with increasing frequency, wanting to institute a government to protect their rights. At first these rebellions were easily put down, but lately they've begun to coalesce into a central movement under the banner of the Orion Arm Liberation Front, which has actually become a legitimate threat to the Protectorate. Of course, the rebellion isn't blameless either, they're driven by fanaticism and revenge and have become more and more authoritarian over the years. It's at this point that most of our stories open; the Conglomerate is locked in a war they will inevitably lose, but are attempting to hide (unsuccessfully) from the general public. More and more planets are erupting into violence as the fire of rebellion spreads through the Galaxy, with ordinary people both Human and Xeno alike caught in the crossfire.
It's a dark, gritty, cyberpunk space opera. Like District 9 on a Star Trek scale with heavy cyberpunk themes.

I could have you be just normal civilians who join the rebels, or I could have you be agents of the Free Systems, which is a smaller confederacy of democratic systems on the edge of Conglomerate space that have managed to survive because they have a rather shaky truce with the Conglomerate. Alternately we could go with standard murder hobos.
And I have no objection to lewds. If we go the lewd route, I might host it on the Literotica forums, since most forums aren't a fan of lewd content.

Yeah you can play different game types on Roll20. One of the games I was doing was world of darkness and that is a d10 model. If your game ends up going anywhere I think I may end up playing a boring human though. Casual racism and xenophobia sounds like it might be fun to play with. And I too have spent many a night obsessing over sci-fi space battles. One of my favourite games is modded Sins of a Solar Empire.

And now you understand why I write in this universe. There's something about playing imperious villains that's really entertaining. Arbiters in particular are fun to play with because they're essentially extremely dry, snarky, nihilistic, self-aware demigods and are absolute sociopaths as a result. In fact, the entire rebellion started because an Arbiter egged it on and let it happen for the sole reason that he was bored and wanted to fight a war again.

Space battles in this (I'm just calling it Enemy Lines) are a lot more like submarine warfare than surface ship combat, except with extremely heavily armored submarines and massive rail canons instead of torpedoes. A lot of hiding and scanning and trying to be the first one to detect and engage the other. Space fighters are only used for attacking space stations or escorting dropships.
