Here's something I'd like to share with you, /aco/. It's a few photos of a comic by Vern Kent, from way back in 1973. It's a cross between a graphic novel and a modern-day (for its time) Tijuana bible. Let's have a closer look...
>>490810
Who was Vern Kent? A pseudonym for Ken Landau, who was a prolific comic book artist in the 50's and 60's. He was also active in the field of animation as a layout artist for Hanna-Barbera and other studios up until the 80's.
>>490814
He also did a series of similar books featuring the character "Cuthbert Crotchpheasant", and was also a gag cartoonist and illustrator for several men's magazines for several decades.
>>490819
>>490821
If you're wondering where these photos are from, they're not mine. I inquired about this book on an online bookstore (I was looking to buy it but later changed my mind), and one of its owners was nice enough to take photos of the book.
>>490826
Of course, in the initial e-mail, they did some small amount of censorship.
>>490829
But I guess they changed their minds about that later.
>>490830
Cheapest I've seen this go for is 18 bucks, but what degenerate keeps physical copies of smut, anyway?
Not me...I keep virtual copies!
>>490835
Alright that's the end of our tour.
I hope you liked it, /aco/.
Have a good night.
Loved it! Please post more if you have it
>>491110
Sorry, anon. That was all the photos that I have.
But, I DO know where I've seen more photos.
Hold on...
OK I'm back
Here's a pair of photos from an ended eBay auction, along with a couple of other books I'll dump later in the thread...
...like maybe tomorrow or some shit
>>491143
Personally, I would like to see more of this "Gay Gertie"...
Nice.
I have a big stack of Sex to Sexty magazines that I bought for $2/ea. at a local bookstore. They're hilarious.
>>491249
Two of the books I mentioned earlier were actually done by one of the Sex to Sexty cartoonists under a pseudonym.
Same publisher as "Dudley Studley", too.
I can dump the photos tomorrow.
>>491262
I'm not surprised. I see a whole lot of familiar styles in those magazines, especially the earlier ones.
Another version of >>490814 ,
from another online bookstore.
Personally, from the samples I've seen, it's a hit. It's got a good art-style and I can fap to it. I give it a 10.
c u 2morrow /aco/ with more Tijuana bible-style comics
>>491307
well of COURSE i forgot the pic
Thanks for sharing this gem! Wish the whole thing be available somewhere.
Alright I'm back
Starting off with a photo of "Dudley Studley" from yet another online bookstore
More from this author later...
...but first, here's some excerpts from another Tijuana Bible-esque comic, from the same publisher.
From 1972, it's "The Many Faces of Philbert Foxhunt", by Von Thrubble.
>>491950
Who was Von Thrubble? A pseudonym for Art "Hurric" Omans, who was a staff cartoonist for Sex to Sexty from its conception in 1965 to its conclusion in 1983. He also sold mostly to other men's magazines in that time period.
>>491954
These next photos are from that eBay auction I mentioned earlier
>>491957
You certainly wouldn't see this in a regular soft-core issue of Sex to Sexty.
Nope, from the samples I've seen, this book is 100% hardcore!
Alright. Next up is "Four Bored (Very Bored) Housewives".
Same author, same year, same publisher (Red Lion, in case you were wondering).
>>491965
>>491967
How do I know it's Hurric doing the art and not some fourth-rate pornogrpaher apeing his style?
I happen to be Facebook friends w/ Ted Trogdon, another "Sex to Sexty" veteran. He and Art Hurric were close friends and associates, since they were two of the few staff tooners at the magazine (the rest were freelancers).
He confirmed that it WAS Hurric who did the books. Of course, considering the graphic nature of these books, he left it at that. Can't blame him, really.
>>491969
>>491970
OK, c u later 2night w/ characters such as "Cuthbert Crotchpheasant" and "Harry Hotjock"
this thread should still be here by then
Back again w/ "Around the World with Cuthbert Crotchpheasant" (1971), by Vern Kent (Ken Landau), so-called bestselling author of "Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Cuthbert Crotchpheasant - and Didn't Dare Ask" (1970).
>>492556
...and I do believe pic related is one of the earliest examples of that "Perfect Woman" meme.
>>492559
>>492561
>>492566
"Laugh sensation of the year", my ass.
But WAIT - there's MORE!
>>492569
Here's the cover to "The Cosmopolitan Cuthbert" (1972).
...and I highly doubt that this "Donald H. Gilmore, Ph.D." was a real doctor...
...or that his name was "Donald H. Gilmore, Ph.D." ...
...but whoever he was, he DID author the stellar four-volume set "Sex in Comics: A History of the Eight Pagers", one of the earliest compilations of Tijuana bibles.
Try to find the Tashen coffee table book of Sex To Sexty. FYI:The publisher was a devout Christian.
>>492704
I actually happened upon a .rar file of that book. Basically somebody took photos of each individual page.
It was interesting reading about how Larry Flynt wanted to buy the publishing rights to Sex to Sexty, and how the publishers refused.
Flynt would later produce his own humor title - "Hustler Humor".
Coming up: Harry Hotjock!
Here are some (swiped) excerpts from "The Perils of Harry Hotjock" (Vol. 1, No. 1) by Fred Engleman.
Who was Fred Engleman? A pseudonym for Jack O'Brien, a gag cartoonist who was active in both comic books and magazines from the 1950's to the late 1980's.
For example, he was one of the chief artists on Harvey Comics' "Sad Sack" titles.
He also sold to several men's magazines including "Sex to Sexty" and produced dozens of Tijuana bibles in the '50's and '60's.

The publisher is unknown. As is the exact date of publication.
But I do know that this and the other books in this thread were distributed by "Pacific News", which I'd like to believe was the largest distributor of smut on the West Coast until everyone involved got jailed for obscenity.
Next: "Harry Hotjock Rides Again" (Vol. 1, No. 2)
Same author, same unknown publisher.
