Mo your code for initializing the sacred scrolls inventory needs to be in 00_HT_Persistent.py instead of 01_hp.rpy.
If it's in 01_hp.rpy, that's considered a change AFTER the game has loaded and won't be saved. hasattr(renpy.store, 'sscroll_') will always be false and all scrolls will be initialzed back to False. You lose all bought scrolls ever save/load cycle.
I tested moving it to 00_HT_Persistent.rpy and it works. Bought scrolls stay bought.

If making this game would be fun or a good learning experience for a possibly more ambitious project in the future than go for it. Some people will be able to enjoy a game without pictures but others will be less interested especially if you aren't sure of your writing abilities.
Choosing photos is a possible stopgap before you can get an actual artist. Again that will put off some people (possibly a lot of /aco/) and limit you to scenes you can find pictures for but it will make your game feel more complete. Though I'm pretty sure it would feel a bit off if you used photos for an akabur visual novel style game.

Make sure that before you begin, you already know what the ending of the game is going to be.
Have a good idea of the mechanics you want to add to your game.
If you can't draw, then you might have to invest some money in an artist and this can get expensive. I've worked on something a while back and ended up paying about 60 bucks for 1 character with a bunch of assessories and costumes. Artists will usually charge +15 (or more) dollars for backgrounds. So you can consider just paying for the models and assessories and use pictures for your backgrounds.
Write up a design document before you do anything else.

That's not entirely true. I think the biggest problem is finding someone who will do both.
Silver and 4H suffer from a lack of a dedicated writer but KT and SM both suffer from a lack of a dedicated artist.
The problem is once you start a project with the knowledge that you are only going to do part it's very hard to find someone as dedicated and motivated to contribute equally to the project at the same pace as you.
Being both the writer and the artist is what put Akabur in the position he is in.

Hey guys, just wanted to get your opinions on how the outfits should be implemented in silver.
At the moment the plan is for there to be an outfit for each scene that unlocks a variation of the scene. E.g. the heart dancer outfit for the dancing scene. This means that outfits can only be worn during favours but will act as a way to unlock a different variation of the scene.
Do you like this idea or would you prefer an alternative?

I think the RNG is broken somehow. If I have a potion in my inventory, or the ingredients to make a potion, no ingredients appear in any location.
