I find this thread more then amusing, due to the fact that Disney wants to remove ALL reference to slave leia from EVERYTHING, despite the fact it's become such an icon.
And the fact carrie fisher considered it debasing, and yet she had the most empowering moment when she up and CHOKES jabba with the very chain he used to keep her with.

I don't think Carrie Fisher actually hated it. There are apocryphal quotes about her finding it obscene and sexist and whatnot, but in all the interviews I've actually seen, she's pretty positive about it. She wanted to move away from the conservative costumes she wore in the first two movies. She did a photoshoot with Rolling Stone wearing the outfit back when the movie was released. And she called the (rumored) moratorium on Slave Leia merchandise ridiculous precisely for the reason you listed - she kills the monster who forced her to wear it. She thinks it's empowering, and one of Leia's strongest moments.
I could be wrong, but I've yet to see an official statement from Disney about discontinuing the Slave Leia image. If so, so what? They're not going to pull a George Lucas and go back to digitally edit the films and put her in a fucking sweater. Let's be honest: how many fucking action figures/statues/posters/life-sized dolls can be made from it? There's already a million out there, and Disney's not gonna produce anything more than it already has. But the fan culture surrounding it isn't gonna die; it's been active for 32 fucking years. So there's really nothing to worry about. Disney electing not to market with it is little different from them not marketing with Jar-Jar. Although in the latter case, the fact that he existed regardless of his marketing presence is a BAD thing; nevertheless, we still feel the ramifications of Jar-Jar, and we'll still feel the more positive impact of Slave Leia.
And cosplayers aren't ever gonna give that shit up.
