The difficulty curve should ease you in through the first half of the game, enemy HP and attacks scale way up later on though
so in a way, it's easy enough to learn on your own
or if you just want the plot without much thought for the game, the tower mage can be talked to in the outskirts of your tower and can join your party so you can walk through all combat
