Southern Utah, my friend. Plenty of fit students thanks to the shitload of outdoor activities and the overall culture was less prudish than up north.
The professors were also really good about getting our feedback as to which kinds of models we liked and tended to rehire the ones that got positive feedback. There was always to loud fat chick in class that complained that we needed to draw more body types, which resulted in a few sessions with this very large black girl, but as a whole in retrospect, I was very pleased with the selection.

And so you don't make it too hard on yourself if you draw him again, Squishy is opaque. I based his coloring and texture on the skin of a bottlenose dolphin.

Okay, open and probably stupid question, but how do you make OCs that aren't immediately apparent as wish-fulfillment, fetish fuel, or some combination of the two?
Because every time I try to think of something, it always ends up leading to the idea of "but what if somebody wants to see his dick" or "this is just blatantly putting every positive trait I don't have into this character and that makes them completely unbelievable and no fun."

Well I'm probably not the best person to give advice, but IMO there are several ways to avoid the things you mention when making an OC.
For starters try to make it an actual character, not the focus of attention, and if the OC is the main character of your story try to make him not absurdly strong and desirable. at least not at the start of the story. a weak character that eventually becomes really strong is more relatable to people than one that is gifted and "awesome" from the start.
If Male dont make every female insantly want his dick and if female dont make her the single hottest piece of ass in the universe. Nothing wrong with a character being unattractive.
If the character is part of an existent series universe try to keep it bellow the canon main characters status in terms of power/importance, if you make him/her the super legendary chosen one stronger than the main cast people will roll their eyes.
If the OC is a villain is okay to have them be super "awesome and strong" but not if its for the sake of the main hero to measure their dick against.
And for godsake, give them FLAWS, as a rule try to give them one equal flaw for every "awesome" characteristic it has. if the character is the son of the gods choosen by the universe born during a planet alingment and being the reincarnation of the creator of the universe, you better have some horrible flaw to go with it!
Also this is the tricky one, try to give them an actual PERSONALITY, don't let his/her traits be their entire character and try to not have his/her personality be little more than a "list of tropes".

Okay, yeah, but say you go too far in the other direction, and suddenly they're a nonentity so dull you'd wonder why you even made them in the first place. I suppose it's all just a matter of moderation (and I never was much a fan of the "flawless OC" concept) and trying not to cripple the character with too many problems while wiping out their redeeming features.
My real problem, I guess, is that I keep thinking what other people might think of them if I ever let them out of my brain, as opposed to just being happy with them and throwing them out of my brainspace and onto paper, come what may. I've no confidence in them, so they've never progressed beyond vague outlines of character traits and concepts.

I'm kinda weird when it comes to OCs. I have an unabashed gigantic love for secondary/background characters in media, so I tend to write my OCs with a "what if they were merely background characters in this world?" mentality.
So they end being people with not much flashyness or interesting traits that will never stand out in the world they live in, and thats fine to me.
But of course, that makes them all be very generic, boring and uninteresting, but in a way not focusing on giving them many outstanding traits makes me take more care on the subtleties of their characters.
"RPG girl" for example is a one key type character (generic RPG character that is awful at everything, thats basically it) but I am actually kinda proud at how deep her actual personality is, she would pass that red letter media "describe a character without mentioning their job or what they look like" test easy. heck I have done around 4 posts with details about her and I am not even close at describing her whole personality and motivations, which while simple, make her feel like a character and not just a trope.
She still sucks tho.

Continuing the trend of me being the worst beggar to ever disgrace these threads. I love your monster girls and makes me wanna request something from the earliest concept of my OC.
I mentioned before that RPG girl has red eyes from an earlier more "anime" version of the character, she originally had purple hair and red eyes, because the earliest concept for her was to imitate the feeling of using a Rattata in the Pokemon Mistery Dungeon games.
Rattata is my favorite Pokemon (can you tell I like generic weak and underrated things?) and I always use a rattata on the MD games even if it SUUUCK stat wise.
So if you could draw my OC as a cute human-rattata hybrid girl I would love you even more than I already do.
But even if you decide to do it, dont give it any priority over other requests that come your way. and if you don't wanna that's cool too!

I've got an insect girl myself. Or rather an arachnid Girl. Her name is Vix. She's a sadistic Fat tailed Arabian Scorpion and a hard dom. She tends to use her stinger either to penetrate people (not neccessarily in one of their holes) or poison them. Her venom ranges from paralyzing, Burning, and at its worst acidic.

Rough concept sketch.
The idea is the large arms are for strength based tasks and the lower arms are for fine manipulation and more delicate tasks, which is why they have more joints.
I'll have to figure out how to do the floof better and the chitin as well...this isn't as easy as a human...which isn't easy anyway...expect lots of changes as I dick around with the design a lot.
