Thanks!! I used ToonBoom for this one, it's really good for keeping consistent lines and for coloring. But it's easier to do sketch animation in Flash.
I pretty much started out with a circle and a tube, it's important to have basic shapes when starting out. Going into detail too early leads to disaster. It's easier to fix mistakes when you have to redraw a circle, instead of a whole face. Once I got the basic motion down, then I drew her face, bald, no ears. The ears and different parts of her hair were animated later on different layers, so that I could focus on the movement of those parts individually.
Here's the lines of that animation! Maybe it'll help.

I've actually never done hand-drawn animation! Everything I know I learned from youtube tutorials on flash. But I never use tweening or any other flash shortcuts.
It's much better to do how you suggested, draw it out on paper and scan it in. You'll learn faster without digital tools getting in your way. Be sure to post if you do that, I'd love to see what you make!

Well, I started out with an Intuos4, but I've heard Bamboo is good to start out with. Right now I'm using a graphics moniter tablet, it's just like a cintiq, but way cheaper. If anyone's ready to invest in a moniter tablet, Yiynova is the way to go.
