So there are trillions of stars and systems out there, one would logically conclude from that, there are alien species out there that are technologically advanced as well.

With convergent evolution (that things evolve largely the same way due to benefits of things evolving that way, like having eyes, hands, brains etc) we could assume that on some earth like planet out there, there are probably humanoid aliens.

Do you think then those humanoid aliens would have anime as well? Do you think that Alien anime exists?

>So there are trillions of stars and systems out there, one would logically conclude from that, there are alien species out there that are technologically advanced as well.
n = number of stars
p = probability of life in a star system
Probability of life somewhere among all those stars = (1-p)^n
Probability of life has more than 10 zeros before the first non-zero digit.
A trillion has 9 zeroes.

No, you cannot logically conclude that the presence of "trillions" of stars means that there is life out there.

Define advanced. They could be either more primitive than us wit thousands of years or more advanced with millions or even billions of year. The cahance that there is an alian civilization out there which just happens to be around the same technological level as us is technically 0.

Because it's very possible that at some point in the past or in the future some alien race became culturally and technologically advanced enough to produce this kind of fiction, but they probably looked nothing like humans.

Yes, it does.
If they don't match our definition of life, then by our definition, they are not alive.
That doesn't mean that our definition is perfect. If some alien species makes contact with us and makes it necessary for us to change our definition of life, so be it. But until then, they cannot be considered life, because life has a definition, and if we don't go by that then we have nothing.

I actually think there's some potentially ignored gold here.

Consider the neural pathways that lead to us symbolically interpreting the, when you get down to it, very simplistic and very abstracted set of lines and colours as being analogous to what a human actually looks like.

Is the capacity for symbolic rather than literal representation of objects a necessity for intelligent ayys? What if you have some kind of hyper intelligent but also hyper literal race, that just construct a scale model of something they want to represent. Or just text exhaustively explain every feature of it. They would be unable to PERCEIVE anime, let alone produce it.

What if they ARE symbolic thinkers like us, but were all just really shit at drawing right up until their space age? Would their own inability to produce anime prevent them from appreciating ours?

The universe is millions of years old. What are the chances that there's life just as intelligent as us in this EXACT same moment out there?

If they were more intelligent than us they would have contacted us or at least responded. We've sent signals across the universe for light years around us and got no response. If there really is intelligent life out there, the fact that they haven't responded yet means they're so far away from us that even traveling at light speed it would take them several generations for them to reach back.

tl;dr no point in thinking about it until we get FTL travel.

I wish uneducated Americans could only lurk, never post.

That's wrong though because so far we have personally visited no other planets. The fact we haven't detected radio waves and shit over 4 jillion billion miles doesn't say much.

>unprovable speculation

The word you are looking for is theory, and it's not something that is unprovable. The thing that separates a theory from religion is that theory is inherently provable or disprovable, it's a question of how much evidence can be gathered and how strong said evidence is or is not.

Currently, there is an abundance of evidence that supports the big bang theory. There is evidence that contradicts it as well, like the necessity for the existence of dark energy to keep the universe expanding. But the single most telling sign that someone doesn't know jack shit about scientific theory is when they start comparing it to religion.

Europe has CERN. Its experiments are quite remarkable and, well, way above my lesser mind to understand, other than prove certain unsettling theories rights. Some theories becames laws, for example we now know as a fact that space can be bended as Einstein predicted. We have the existence of black matter and something that can "transform" it into everything really. But questions do remain. What is black matter? Where does it come from?

They just have to use carpet bombing doctrine.

I like to think that aliens exist. Over the course of millions of years, why do we think they would have advanced similarly to humans, with technology and a lust for discovery amongst the stars? Their way of life could be much more laboured than ours, who rely on machinery to manage everyday tasks. They may not even desire so much in their every day life to even warrant technology.

Consider the fact that our observable universe is relatively tiny when put into the big picture.

Since we know space-time warps around objects with huge mass and perceived time flow is slower than it really seems around objects with large mass, ie. black holes, it's entirely possible that there's a super-massive black hole just outside of our observable universe, we're sitting here, in our tiny observable universe-bubble, completely oblivious while the rest of the universe is speeding towards its death.

There might have been aliens - have been, they're probably long dead and we never got to meet them. Our clock went slower than theirs by billions of years.

Black matter is a hack.
When reality differs from theory, smart guys simply insert some variables and constants into formula until they got correct answer.
>>
>>141617659
That's not how evolution works.

Are you Indian?

The proof of dark matter is that we can see galaxies hundreds of billions of light years away despite the sky not being completely saturated with stars to the point where it is solid white at night.
>>
>>141617793

That would be apparent in the way light coming from our furthest observable reaches is warped by the gravitational forces of such a black hole. As in, whichever direction that such a black hole would be in, the light coming from there would be far more red-shifted than the light coming from other sides of us. And that would be have been noticed ages ago by astronomers.

Dark matter only interacts with gravity, so we look for it by searching for gravitational lensing and interactions of dark matter and normal matter, the fact that we can see things that far away has nothing to do with it.
>>
It probably exists, but we will never see it in all probability.

If the light isn't being obstructed on an immense scale then multiple big bangs is impossible because the sky would literally be solid light.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olbers'_paradox
>>
>>141619010

Big Bangs may be so distant from each other or so infrequent or both that it permits the night sky to be dark.
>>
>>141617997
>>141619010
The thing is that the sky is saturated with light in all directions, it's called cosmic microwave background, we can't see it because as it was travelling through expanding space it got shifted in frequency beyond our visible spectrum, but any sensitive enough radio telescope can see it.
>>
>>141619010

Multiple big bangs does not preclude the idea of a finite universe.
>>
>>141619311
So you're saying there was a finite number of big bangs? What caused them? How many are there?
>>
>>141619010
>is the argument that the darkness of the night sky conflicts with the assumption of an infinite and eternal static universe.
That doesn't hold up in our current understanding of the universe.
Even with multiple big bangs, in an infinite universe their light could simply not reached us yet and even then it would be redshifted into non-visible light.
>>
>>141619335

>So you're saying there was a finite number of big bangs?

That is the assertion, yes.

> What caused them?

What caused any Big Bang? The front running theory is that big bangs are a natural occurrence that is predicted by quantum physics as happening once in a very, very, very long time (billions and billions of times longer than the current estimate age of the universe). It is possible for energy to appear from nothing in quantum physics, although it is usually very short lived and this phantasmal energy collapses due to not being part of a balanced system. A big bang would be a case where the energy is created within a balanced system and it does not cease to exist instantaneously.

>How many are there?

Impossible to estimate, let alone guess. Depending on how expansive the universe is, there could be more big bangs out there than we could ever imagine.

>>141619416

It is also possible that a big bang has already reached thermodynamic equilibrium (heat death) before another big bang even begins to approach it via expansion.
>>
By the time any alien species received our transmission telling them that they're waifus a shit, our civilization will have long since ceased to exist.
>>
>>141620222

But it will have been worth it. Our mark on eternity, made.
>>
>>141620222
Our waifus ae the best you carbon based perpetual waste of energy.
>>
>>141620222
Still worth it
>>
We should build robots who are smart enough to build smarter robots who will then build smarter robots until they're so smart, they will travel through the stars and bring the ultimate knowledge to all aliens that we considered they're waifus a shit.
>>
>>141620891

Fuck that, let's just build robot waifus and live in bliss until the Earth is engulfed by the Sun's great red corpulence.
>>
>>141620222
>Turns out in the language of the aliens that received the transmission's language "shit" is the highest honour you can deliver to somebody
>>
>>141621286
And then the descendants of our robot waifus can go to the robot descendants of other alien civilizations who have died out eons ago and tell them that we considered they're robot waifus a shit, while they get told the same.

Then the great robo-waifu space war begins.
