The world has been reduced to rubble. Humanity is nearly extinct. The half-destroyed cities have become uninhabitable through radiation. Beyond their boundaries, they say, lie endless burned-out deserts and the remains of splintered forests. Survivors still remember the past greatness of humankind. But the last remains of civilisation have already become a distant memory, the stuff of myth and legend.
More than 20 years have passed since the last plane took off from the earth. Rusted railways lead into emptiness. The ether is void and the airwaves echo to a soulless howling where previously the frequencies were full of news from America, Europe, and China. Man has handed over stewardship of the earth to new life-forms. Mutated by radiation, they are better adapted to the new world. Man's time is over.
A few score thousand survivors live on, not knowing whether they are the only ones left on earth. They live in the Tokyo Metro - the biggest air-raid shelter ever built. It is humanity's last refuge. Stations have become small states- nationstations, their people uniting around ideas, religions, water-filters - or the simple need to repulse an enemy incursion. It is a world without a tomorrow, with no room for dreams, plans, hopes. Feelings have given way to instinct - the most important of which is survival. Survival at any price.
Nakano-sakaue Station is the westernmost inhabited station on its line. It was one of the Metro's underground stations and still remains secure. But now a new and terrible threat has appeared. Hinako, a young girl living in Nakano-sakakue, is given the task of penetrating to the heart of the Metro, to the legendary Otemachi Station, to alert everyone to the awful danger and to get help. She holds the future of her native station in her hands, the whole Metro - and maybe the whole of humanity.
A boy falls in love with a girl.
Unable to confess, he is shocked when the girl is suddenly punched into a door by a stranger. But before he can be punched as well, he is saved by a skateboarding loli who calls him Daddy. It turns out she's his daughter from the future who's there to help him get together with her mother so that she'd be born. However, since the mother is lying on the floor as a door, the two wonder what to do, when they are suddenly recruited by an agency called Supernatural, Paranormal, and Extraterrestrial Countermeasure Agency (shortened as SPECA).
The agency, comprised of Christmas Cakes that can adapt and adjust to magic or ESP, is investigating the sudden increase of doors in the world, and has narrowed the cause down to a murder club that makes doors by punching people so hard they turn into a door. Each day, a person is turned into a door by them every 0.56 seconds.
The future daughter is initiated into the Yuri Cake harem, but the boy, not wanting to cause an uproar among the Agency female operatives, joins only as a Top-Secret Operative. His assignment is also entirely different; he is given a V.S.L.D (Virtual Sky Lantern Device). This device contains six chambers, each chamber can hold a 'LANTERN'. These LANTERNS contain energized prayers that can obliterate targets when shot.
Unfortunately, the director's daughter, Takumie Sudo, knows of the boy. She fell in love with the boy long time ago, but unable to confess, she becomes an Androgyny Dyke, and she is all out to destroy whatever relationships the boy has with his daughter.
The boy, his daughter, and Takumie now have to work together unwillingly to stop the leader of the murder club from turning more people into doors. But WHY is he doing all this? That's right, the bastard wantsWORLD PEACE!!

Sometime in the 2020's, all written language vanishes from the Earth. Against this backdrop, a young Cypher boy is born with a single work, The Adventures of Huck Finn, in his mind... yet, his knowledge is incomplete: he's missing the last few chapters in his mind. He sets out on a journey with a small band of allies to explore the world and find a Cypher with the ending of his story.
This black-haired, unexceptional boy wants nothing but an ordinary life, but various circumstances lead to him living with like 6 or so girls of various ages, personalities, and breast sizes (also his parents are gone for some reason).
Before long every single one of them and half of his school are in love with him, but he doesn't seem to notice or reciprocate.

However, when the first alien ship arrives, that celebration turns to terror as the aliens viciously slaughter the unarmed expedition. Humanity sends in a fleet, but it proves nearly useless against the alien's single ship. Over the next few centuries, humanity fights a valiant fight, but is being pushed back. Trillions are already dead, and quadrillions more are in the line of fire. In a small research colony, humanity's top scientists have developed two prototypes of a weapon that might turn the tide in the war. One can only be piloted by a lesbian high school girl, while the other can only be piloted by a bland high school boy. Each are powered by the hopes and dreams of the girls who have fallen in love with the pilot. Humanity's future depends on how large these two pilots can make their harems.

Episode 1:
Hinako, our protagonist, was born before the nuclear holocaust. She and her mother escaped into the depths of the Nakano-Shimbashi Station. For a while, life was well. The station was well-lit and had plenty of supplies. All was well until a horde of carnivorous rats invaded the station. The baby Hinako was saved by Yoshida, a military officer. The rats killed Hinako's other and many survivors with her. They escaped to Nakano-Sakakue Station. Yoshida's escape from the station became legendary. He became one of the authorities of Nakano-Sakakue Station.
Years later, she meets a mysterious man who calls himself Jack. Jack asks her to tell Yoshida that he was looking for him. The three gather together and discuss the situation at Nakano-Sakakue Station as recently, there have been attacks on the station by humanoid mutants simply known as the Kaibatsu. While Jack believes they should keep fighting these threats, Yoshida has already lost all hope. All of a sudden, wolf-like mutants made their way in through the tunnel vents. Hinako takes a weapon from a nearby guard and skillfully eliminates the wolves, much to Jack's amazement. While Jack is leaving, he tells Hinako to travel to Otemachi Station, in case he does not return as Jack is going on an expedition to eliminate the Kaibatsu. Yoshida obviously disapproves of this mission, as the path to Otemachi is treacherous. Days have past, and Jack was never heard from again.
Determined to accomplish this task, she joins the trolley of a caravan of traders on their way to Shinjuku Station and sets off on her journey
Episode 2:
Hinako arrives in Nishi-Shinjuku Station. The caravan is unable to proceed as the tunnel between Nishi-Shinjuku and Shinjuku Station was under maintenance, and need to wait a day or two to proceed. This would be too long, as Yoshida would surely find her. Hinako then meets Anzu, who introduces herself as a stalker. She asks Hinako to escort her to Yoyogi Station in exchange of a generous amount of ammunition, a rare commodity. Their path? The surface. Hinako was reluctant, but with no other choice, she accepts.
They approach the surface. As they get closer, the sunlight burns Hinako's eyes, but she resists the blindness until her eyes cleared up. In front of her was Tokyo, a former metropolis, now a cold and desolate wasteland. Skyscrapers were in ruins and the streets were filled with debris and crashed vehicles. The entire city was covered in snow, the effect of nuclear winter. Anzu and Hinako both wore gas masks as the fallout had heavily polluted the air, poisoning anyone who dares breathe in. The surface was completely empty, save for wolf-like mutants which hunt in the streets, and flying creatures that howl like lions.
They make their way through the ruins, passing by what was once the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. Before reaching Yoyogi Station, Anzu is caught and executed by soldiers of the Empire, a left-wing faction of the Tokyo Metro. Hinako tries to save her, but it was too late, as Anzu was fatally wounded by her captors. Hinako kills the soldiers, and stays by Anzu. At her last moments, Anzu admits she was planning to kill Hinako and loot her stuff. She asks for forgiveness, but Anzu dies before Hinako could respond.
She then hears several shouts- soldiers. They were coming to their dead allies. Luckily for Hinako, a mysterious stranger named Hanzo arrives. They escape and both plan a route to Otemachi. They descend into the Kita-Sando Station, a little further from Yoyogi Station.

You know how there's a red string of fate? Turns out it's real and visible only to you and the person it links you to, but it doesn't connect you to the one you love - it's the person you'll kill or be killed by.
This is the kind of world our MC is born into. Always wary of the day you'll meet the person on the other end, what are they like, what if they kill me first, when will I be free from this unknowing?
MC accidentally stumbles upon the original meaning of the red string and tries to tell everyone about it, but no one will listen to him except for a girl in his class who he slowly falls in love with despite his belief that the red string represents fated lovers, not death.
And before you say "hurrdurr their strings are connected aren't they" their strings aren't connected,and MC ends up being killed by the one on the other end of his own string (a different girl) who mistakenly believes in the fake string meaning.

Episode 3:
They arrive in Kita-Sando Station. They decide to gather force and travel through a strange tunnel. Hanzo warns Hinako not to touch any of the shadows. As they go deeper into the tunnel, Hinako sees the shadows- silhouettes of people. Hanzo explains that the shadows were the people who died in the tunnel, forced to relive their deaths for eternity.
Both reach Meiji-Jingumae Station. They were forced to split up as the station was being attacked the Empire. He tells her to follow the Chiyoda Line, as it would bring her to Otemachi. She flees and arrives at Omote-Sando Station, where she is apprehended by members of the Empire for "missing documents." She was then imprisoned in the heart of the Empire, Shibuya Station.
Episode 4:
Hinako wakes up in a cell, deep in Shibuya Station. With her was another person, apparently a member of the Shogunate, another powerful faction in the Tokyo Metro. A Kenpeitai interrogator arrives and is knocked out by the other prisoner. She introduces herself as Yayoi and they plan their escape. They venture into the very heart of Shibuya Station, where the general of the Empire was making a speech. They flee the scene and escape through the tunnels using a trolley. They pass straight through the exit and through the Imperial-occupied Omote-Sando Station. They make their way to Aoyama-Itchome, a station occupied by the Toyotomi Domain, vassal of the Shogunate.

Episode 5:
The two arrive at Aoyama-Itchome. Yayoi tells Hinako to stay close as Shogunate territories do not welcome outsiders. The Shogunate station was decorated in an old style, mimicking the architecture and designs of the Tokugawa Era. An army passed by the station. Yayoi explains that the Shogunate is in a state of civil war, and Aoyama-Itchome was part of the rebellion. They then head to the Ginza Line side of the Station and hides Hinako in the compartment of one of the trolleys. She explains the only way to Otemachi would be through the heart of the Shogunate, Akasaka-Mitsuke Station.
Hinako travels in the trolley, and arrives at the "Front Line" between the rebels and the Shogunate. She is then caught by one of the officers, and was forced to fight in the front. After a few minutes of fighting, she manages to sneak her way to the enemy lines. She continues on to Akasaka-Mitsuke.
Episode 6:
She arrives at Akasaka-Mitsuke, the heart of the Shogunate. After wandering for a while, she is seen by one of the guards, and began to run through the station. She takes one of the trolleys and heads off towards one of the tunnels. The guards do not try to chase her, and close the tunnel gates instead.
She later learns why. She arrives at Kokkai-Gijidomae Station, abandoned and burning. The station had poisonous air, and she was forced to wear her mask. The station was filled with dead bodies. In the station was mutants. She fights her way to the surface- when a mutant destroys her mask. When she was about to lose consciousness, a pair of soldiers headed her way.
A high school boy lives with his imouto. Ever since their parents died of the deadly Japanese cold, he has been taking care of his precious imouto and in addition to school working two jobs to pay the bills. Unfortunately, this resulted in not having much time to spend with his imouto, which leads to some bad feelings between them. Wishing he could repair his relationship with his imouto, he encounters a talking cat. Somehow the cat has mistaken him for his imouto and given him magical girl powers. Now able to transform into a girl the same age as his imouto, he decides to use his female form to help repair their relationship.
Boy gets kidnapped by the brits and forced into working on mainland Great Britain. Years later he's forced to fight for the british in WW2 but he soon ran off going back to his homeland. On his way he sneaked through both Germans and Allied forces.
By the time he arrived, he discovered his land has been taken over by the Japanese. Fueled by anger, he gather and led his people to oppose the Japanese occupation.
Episode 7:
She later awakens. The pair of soldiers had given her first aid and a new mask. Their names were Yuri and Rin, and they were soldiers of the Otemachi Army, tasked to investigate Kokkai-Gijidomae. After Hinako explains what she saw and that she needed to go to Otemachi, the two decide to bring her back. They venture through the snow-covered ruins of Tokyo to reach Kasumigaseki Station and get their trolley. While on the way there, a group of mutants appeared and chased them through the tunnels. They passed by the ruins of Hibiya Station and finally arrived at Otemachi, where the army opened fire on the mutants.
She is welcomed by the army's commander. She tells him she was sent by Jack and tells her to wait for a man named Mikage.
The next day, Mikage meets Hinako, who informs him there is a council meeting that day to discuss the situation outside of Otemachi. During the meeting, Hinako explains the situation at Nakano-Sakakue to them. The council declines but members of the army in the council later offers her help. They task Hinako to go to the National Diet Building with Mikage, Yuri, and Rin to retrieve a very important document.
Episode 8?
Mikage warns Hinako of Councillors, large ape-like creatures with fearsome strength. They were known to mimick human speech. The only way to ease it would be to stare directly at its eyes.
Mikage and Yuri stay behind as they were trapped while Hinako and Rin progress farther into the library. After an encounter with a Councillor, Hinako manages to barely escape. Rin is killed by the beast. She checks through the Diet's archives- finding only one document: a folder named "Dead Hand". Mikage tells her to go to Otemachi via the surface alone, since his partner has been wounded. Hinako somehow makes his way to the station despite all the odds. There, she is rescued by Mikage from monsters.

Episode 9:
Hinako and Mikage make a plan to help Nakano-Sakakue by following the Dead Hand document. They begin their journey by traveling to Tsukishima Station.
Here, Mikage inquires about a certain Shinji and goes on a patrol with the security commander, Hideo. They discuss several things, namely the disappearances of the station's residents, and the conditions of the adjacent station, Kachidoki, but there is no way in or out of the station. They return to the station and meet Shinji. As Hinako has no passport, Mikage and Shinji venture to Shin-kiba to look for an entrance to the Dead Hand site. After one night, Hinako receives a message from Mikage telling him that Shinji had been killed and that he would be back to the station in a day. Mia, Hideo's child, disappears. Hinako finds the child's music-maker outside a previously unseen entrance, and the duo take it to what seems to be Kachidoki. They are both knocked unconscious by Savage Cannibals of the Great Worm Cult and taken hostage. There, the cannibals are about to feast on the duo and hypnotize Hideo but are rescued by Mikage and a team of stalkers. They then begin their journey to the Dead Hand via Tokyo Metro-2 bringing Mia and several stalkers with them.
Episode 10:
The team eventually finds an entrance to Tokyo Metro-2 through a passage in Toyosu Station. They travel descend to the metro and pass under the Tokyo Bay. They discover a hidden missile silo. The team found the control room, but there was no power. Mikage then tasks the rest of the team to find the power generators and activate them.
The team descend and find the power generator, and on top of it, a massive bioweapon that hypnotises humans and consumes them. Mia and Yuri are killed by it. To destroy the beast, Hinako activates the power generator- electrifying the beast. With the control room now working, Mikage tasks Hinako and Rin to find a high point to direct the missiles.
Episode 11:
They decide that the best point would be at the Tokyo Metropolitan Building.
On the way there, they stop at Nakano-Sakakue, which is not doing well because, since Hinako left, half the people are gone, and sometimes the Kaibutsu break through the guard posts and make their way to the living quarters. Once they make their way to the top of the Tokyo Metropolitan Building, they transmit the coordinates. At that very moment, Hinako has a vision from the Kaibutsu, who tell her that they just wanted to cooperate with humans and the killing was just an attempt to communicate with them. But when Hinako regains self-control, the Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, the home of the Kaibutsu, were already destroyed by the missiles. Realising that the Kaibutsu were killed in vain, Hinako tears her mask in agony for what she has done.
After that, she heads back home.

In hindsight, maybe I should have incorporated Shibuya Station in some way, probably as the "Central" station. That title is currently held by Otemachi Station.
Shibuya is actually larger, and closer to the Metropolitan Building, so it makes much more sense to have Shibuya as the headquarters station of Tokyo's last survivors.
Otemachi was near the Imperial Palace and Tokyo Station, so it could have very well worked as the Empire's home station.

This is just some fantasy that's been stuck on my head. Just wanted to share it with others.
Basically, it'd be a three-season Highlander series, with each season taking place in a different era.
Season 1 is set in Sumerian times and the immortals are worshipped as demigods.
Season 2 is set during the times of the fall of Rome, when the immortals are treated as demons by the Christians who are panicking over their civilization crumbling.
Season 3 is set during the time of Japan opening up and has immortal samurais resisting the change while fighting characters who survived the earlier seasons.

MC is among a small group of students that enter a prestigious school that until that moment was all girls but started accepting male students as a modernization effort. Needless to say, he ends up getting an harem.
The story is not actually a harem show, and instead deals with the havoc created by the introduction of 'the male contingent' on the former all girl's school. Preexisting yuri-sh bonds and infatuations are strained now that some of the girls are boy curious now.
So the MC finds himself as more of a pawn in the cold war between the pro-yuri and pro-guy factions, and as such is more of a 'harem bullying circle'.

The beautiful and over archiving class president, she's both the best student, and the best athlete in their middle school, and is quite popular and sociable too. Formerly admired by most of the other girls.
Her best friend, she's more of an average student if not for the fact that since she hangs out with her means she gets pretty good grades too, but it's mediocre at sports. They were the power couple when it was an all girls school but is now curious about boys.
The class nerd, who resents the school princess since she always comes second to her despite her best efforts and on top of that lacks social and athletic skills. She's also actually gay and has kind of a twisted love/hate crush on her even if she doesn't realize it.
There's the hot girl, kind of a glam-tomboy if not for the fact that she's also the best looking girl in school, mediocre in class but great athlete so she has a friendly rivalry with the school princess.
The princess older sister, attends H.S. but it's all the same campus just different buildings. Makes her sister feel inadequate since she's an even bigger overachiever (has won national academic competitions and is an olympic athelte). If her sister is the school princess, she's the school queen, basically used as the school mascot and as enrollment tool by the school administration.
The school princess' younger sister, attends elementary school, very bright and athletic too, but has a humble streak since she's in awe of her older sisters and sees herself as very average in comparison.
The MC's younger sister, used to be a bro-con when she was little but now have more of a bickering siblings relationship.
MC's sister's best friend, straight tomboy with a shy streak, gets bullied for being tanned, skinny & tiny.

MALE CHARACTERS
The MC's two childhood friends who attend public schools and have now distanced from him because they're weirded out that he attends a 'girl's school' and think he's a snob.
The pretty boy, he comes from a poor family but attends the school on an athletics scholarship, he's also a bishonen type so he soon gets a real entourage of girls built around him, he's shameless about it and builds a mini business by charging money to girls that want to take photos with him.
The goof ball, he's also kind of poor but is attending there not because of a scholarship but thanks to his mother's struggles so he feels a duty to try and do well, he's the biggest school in class and develops a crush on the tiniest girl, he gets teased over it, and bonds with MC over their bullying.
Third lower class guy, struggles in school, he's in that school as part of an outreach program more than anything. The one with the most 'adult' outlook, knows how to take advantage of the m:f ratio at school.
There's also the quiet and moody guy that always sits at the back of the class, but unlike the MC it's not shyness and actually just looks cool to everyone. He's also pretty wealthy.
The Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, good natured but they're rich, smart and entitled so they're generally just causing havoc and headaches to their teachers and trying to hook up with the girls.
I got ideas for a bunch of other characters too, but this is getting too long already, MC is mostly just a way into the rest of the school characters rather than the one that would get.
MC is a bass player in his mid-20s in an indie rock band with his two childhood best friends, male friend on drums and female friend on guitar. After their singer gets into an accident and can no longer perform, the band puts out a call for a new singer. Among the applicants is an odd girl who claims she knows MC and is a huge fan of his. Despite her quirks, she has a great singing voice and ends up joining the band. Cue 12 episodes of wacky band hi-jinks, practicing together, writing songs, trying to get gigs, lots of references to real-world bands, etc, and throw in a little bit of love-triangle shit for good measure.In the beginning of the 13th episode it is revealed that the singer is a time-traveler from a future where the band became a global phenomenon. In this future, the band's former singer has become a wealthy business mogul. However, he is incredibly angry that he didn't get to be a part of the band's fame, and vows to get revenge by sending assassins back through time to kill the band before they become world-famous. The next 12 episodes have a complete shift in tone, with the new singer receiving information from her allies in the future about when and where the assassins will strike next, and the band narrowly avoiding each attempt on their lives while still playing shows and steadily gaining fame.

The MC's a delivery boy and is at the wrong place at the wrong time. In the middle of the night, he stumbles across a waifu with strange powers caught up in a battle with an enormous abomination on the steel beams of a massive bridge. His presence alerts the abomination, which diverts attention from the waifu to him. The MC, being a useless nobody, is swiftly and promptly killed.
The waifu kills the beast and comes to the MC's aid, calls him a fucking baka, and sacrifices herself by putting the MC's soul in her body and putting her soul in the MC's body, presumably leaving her dead.
MC wakes up in the body of a grill, sees his real lifeless body next to him, and is now dragged into the personal life of a complete stranger who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Since the last conflict, when the weather warfare had been used on a large scale, sea level rose drastically. Nearly all of the continents were entirely flooded, and people begun to live on artificial islands. Despite the consequences, two powers - East and West - are still fighting. But this time, dry land is at stake.
Girl A (I suck at making up names) is admitted to West's Air Force Academy. Being quite surprised, she used to think of her skills to be at least average. And she had never experienced a real air combat. At the same time, strange creatures start to appear on the sky, and reckless jet pilots are falling their victims. Our Girl A flies around, doing random missions and shit, ocasionally encountering Tsundere Girl B from East's Air Forces (their jets may be painted red, cause they are some post-apo communists or something). Despite their fights, no one ever is killed nor harmed, and Tsundere Grill B always escapes when she's about to loose.
The monster attacks are more frequent, and new species are seen all the time. For example: the very weak ones, that look like sea devils, flying in large flocks, the stronger ones with giant spike/tooth on their tails, capable of piercing armor (there may be a sequence, where pilot will be pierced with this tooth and stretched out of his jet's cockpit), and the boss-like, which usually are hiding under the sea.
Boy A, Girl's A fellow student is very interested in our protagonist but not in a sexual way. He wants to know more about her fighting technique. Also, he keeps a seagul in a bird cage in his room as a pet. Later it turns out that he's a spy from the East. He used seagull as a safe way to contacting higher-ups and sending messages. One day he vanishes (probably being killed by angry crew and thrown to the water).
In the meantime, Tsundere Girl B encounters Girl A again, trying to stop her from killing certain monster. They end up both crashing each other and landing on some abandoned skyscraper's roof.

They starting to develop feelings for each other, and find out how similliar they are. After some time, help arrives. Tsundere Girl B turns out to be a West's spy, an exceptional skilled pilot. With the help of HQ, she arranged her own transfer to the East. Oficially she's accused of treason but after accident with Grill A, she wants to return.
They starting to live together as a students, but Tsundere Girl B is banned from all military activity, which makes her sad, or angry or whatever. Later, another incident is happening. Someone launched all nukes from this facility and aimed them at West's current capital island. Of course, all the blame falls on the Tsundere Girl B. Girl A is sent to chase the nukes and destroy them mid-air or change their course. Tsundere Girl B thinks it's a fucking suicide, she steals jet and is chasing the Girl A only to see her dying in huge-ass explosion.
After mental breakdown, she decided to return to the West's Air Force Academy and starts destroying everything with her jet fighter.

A parallel Earth with a history very similar to ours, however mankind went down a path of magical prowess than technical prowess.
It's historically and geographically very similar to Earth, but everything has an alternate name. WW1 and WW2 obviously happened, but was centered around magic than tanks and airplanes because this alternate mankind hasn't truly developed those.
The story starts in 1945. The alternate Hiroshima gets nearly destroyed after a conjured fireball sent by alternate America slammed into it.
Hiroshima is considered a very spiritual area in this world and is one of the eight "waypoints" on Earth where magic is at its strongest.
The fireball sent by America was meant to not just level Hiroshima, but completely decimate the entire Japanese islands, but a miracle happened where a massive elemental golem/construct inexplicably came out from the ground, absorbed most of the impact, and went dormant.
Fast forward to 2020, nearly a century after WW2. The golem that appeared continued to stay dormant and was thus taken by the Japanese government to do studies on, and a World War 3 is slowly brewing between Eastern Powers and Western Powers, with Japan slowly being dragged into a conflict with their western allies.
MC is an Arcane Scientist who is studying the giant golem. The golem thought to be dormant suddenly starts showing signs of activity and once WW3 is finally declared, the golem springs to life, choosing the MC as its pilot.
The other Waypoints across the globe have also released strange Golems too, which are also being exploited by the respective nations the waypoints belong to.
WW3 is being faught over control of these weighpoints. Western powers want control of them all as do the eastern powers, but nobody exactly knows why save for a few people pulling the strings.
Season 1 ends with WW3 ending, the Western powers have won but the world is largely in rubble due to the mass destruction caused by magic warfare.

Season 2 involves the people pulling the strings using all of this parallel Earth's power to create a rift that leads to the real Earth, leading to an incredible war of technology versus magic between the two Earths with implications that involve the fate of existence as we know it.
MC starts to realize the people he's working for, the western powers of his alternate Earth, may be the bad guys or have no actual concern for their people.
He gets pulled into a plot where he must stop the people who run things on both Earths after realizing that the outcome of this war has dire circumstances on both universes.
He and a branch of soldiers from alternate Earth break off from the main war and start operations against both the technological Earth and the magical Earth.

MC used to be really good at a sport, but he 'retired' for personal reasons. He's not skilled in a traditional sense, but he brings a unique approach to the table.
He transfers to a new school in his hometown, after attending junior year in the big city. This school used to be really good at that sport, but now the club is on the verge of closing down.
MC ends up in the same class as his childhood friend (who knows a lot about the sport, but has self-esteem issues that prevent her from being really good), and she reminds him of the promise they made long ago: to win the nationals someday.
Together, they form a team of the minimum required size:

The rival coach storms off, but not before yelling "We'll get our revenge at the nationals!!"
Then it's a long journey to the nationals, where on various occasions each team member briefly leaves the team until the MC puts his hand on their shoulder and says they're important. They play against many other schools, each of which has their own gimmick, and one player who has a history with one of the protagonists.
Repeat until they come second at the nationals, but realize that the journey was more important than the destination.
