The problem with monarchs is that they're heavily reliant on good hands, if you get a good opening you are probably going to be fine even against those pesky ghostricks or shaddols because you can simply use them for tributes and then summon something like Mega Caius to remove them, unless you're fighting someone who can get back banished monsters easily.
If they manage to set up a good defense against monster effect or have a deck built around cockbloking them you're pretty much fucked though, they're very easy to hard counter.
The new cards are absolute shit though, most vassals are worhtless and both Erebus and Aither are literal unsalvageable trash that you would never ever want to summon.

Everyone in-universe talks about how Academia is so powerful but the Obelisk Force are individually shit, Sora has zero on-screen wins, and Dennis got BTFO twice by Shun (even with Shun handicapped in the first, and Shun would have OTK'd Dennis in their rematch with Revolution Falcon if no Action Cards were used).
It REALLY says how much of a Stu Shun is when he has defeated two of the there strongest duelists in Academia. Aside from Leo and Yuri, what much threat is there from Academia if they are all shit duelists who can't win on-screen duels against duelists who are actually good?

Shun getting all the attention and winning every single on-screen duel only reinforces the idea that Standard is weak, which is what Shun has been saying since day one.
Realistically, it should be those from the Standard Dimension who are developed more such as Yuya, Gongenzaka, Sawatari, Reira, Tsukikage, Yuzu, etc, rather than the show pushing the "Standard duelists except Yuya and Reiji suck at dueling".
