This was the most depressing series I have ever seen. Beginning was good, but around episode 15/16 most characters turned into sad depressed turd.
Everyone said that End of Evangelion is supposed to be better ending than the last 2 episodes but I wish I never saw that movie.
Now I am not sure if I want to see the remakes/remasters, is the storyline the same or are there some alternate happenings?

I feel exactly the same way.

Yet I feel that many of the biggest fans of it don't. The most adamant Eva fans tend to be people who see some kind of ultimately positive message to it all; rarely are they the kinds of people who actually took the full brunt of what the series was going for. I've even seen fans who wished that they had been depressed by it on this gut level, just to experience that.

In my eyes, even the apparently positive parts are still ruses which are deflated by forms of ambiguity that seem to have been added to deliberately counter them, I don't understand how anyone intelligent could take 'omedetou' at face value.
>>
>>139183101
At least somebody feels the same way as me.
>>
>>139182844
I never felt depressed when watching Eva, It barely has anything to make you feel sad at all. Is this a meme or something?
>>
>>139183363
>Is this a meme or something?

No, plenty of people really feel this way and say so all the time. Most of up just end up finding the series unbearable and not worth dwelling on, so we don't watch or discuss it unless other people bring it up.

It only appears to be a 'meme' to you because the Eva fanbase generally self selects for people who weren't viscerally mind-screwed by it, so most of the people discussing are those who are willing to watch it over multiple times and who frequently assume that people who didn't enjoy it are simply less intelligent or perceptive than they are.

>It barely has anything to make you feel sad at all
Understand that the depression we speak of it not sadness. Rather it is better described as a feeling of total emotional dumbness. Eva isn't depressing simply because bad things happen to characters you might care about, if anything it surprised me how long the series took to actually kill off any named character on screen in it's continuity.
>>
If you want depressing, watch Bokurano.
>>
>>139183842
I really donĀ“t want to see anything more depressing, its just most of the people recommend and refer to Eva as one of the best from its genre, and for me it had absolutely devastating and opposite effect.
>>
Ok.
>>
>>139182844
Hell that's not even the most depressing mecha, just watch IBO.
>>
>>139183363
>It barely has anything to make you feel sad at all

That's just retarded. If it didn't have an effect on you that's one thing, but if you didn't notice that Anno was trying to make a depressing series then you weren't paying attention.

Quality=/=Happiness
A show doesn't have to entertain, it could interest or engage. These are just words though, at the end of the day all a show really needs to do is have an effect.

I'm not one to judge, but have you guys ever seen the Tetsujin 28 2004 remake by Imagawa?

The retro designs might put people off, but it's their loss because it was one of the best depressing series I've seen. Most people would think it isn't when the OP is like this:

That's exactly the kind of thing that someone who didn't feel the devastating numbing and disorientation would say. No I don't consider it a positive and would rather have never submitted myself to the experience at all. It is because of this that it did not "interest or engage".

Anon the most depressing anime, more than Eva or Bokurano is Texnolyze hands down. I don't think the amount of happy moments can be counted in one hand, absolutely soul crushingly depressing.

Other than that a good anime.

>>
>>139185637
Frankly I don't care about evangelion, I'm just finding fault with the idea that a shows quality has anything to do with how happy it makes you. Don't call it the "opposite effect".
>>
>>139185852
THIS. The first 2 build you up only to have 3 take a huge dump on you lol. Get rekt faggots Anno is God.
>>

>Tetsujin 28 2004

No but I will check it out but I doubt it is anywhere near as depressing as these shows.

Probably not, because Imagawa tries to make it not too depressing by adding light hearted moments, but I was moved by the setting and story.

Imagawa is my favourite director, even more than Anno, so i have some bias for his works.

Evangelion was Anno's art therapy for his own depression.

The rebuilds are just cash therapy for his retirement account.

The message is that despite how horrible human existence is, life can be paradise if you learn to love yourself.

The "omedetou" ending was upbeat enough, with Shinji having some sense pounded into him, even if it did take his dad resetting the world to accomplish it -- but EoE was just ninety-odd minutes of emotionally kerb-stomped to the worst of bad ends, especially being faked out by the apparently joyful bits.
>>
>>139186729
It's the same ending dumb ass

One was made when Anno was sort-of recovering; the other was made when he'd relapsed. The difference in delivery could not be more stark.
>>
>>139187016
But the message is the same, no need to be fooled by the window dressing
>>
>>139187016
Pure speculation. I've never seen an interview indicating such. The EoE ending is certainly less overwhelming optimistic and certainly more somber, but it is undeniably optimistic, just more in a "shit's still going to suck sometimes but you can make it through"wat rather than a "good job all your problems are gone now Shinji!" way.
>>
>>139187284
>I've never seen an interview indicating such

He got admitted to a fucking mental hospital right after EoE. He included the death threats he got after the series end in EoE.
>>
>>139187697
I have never read any interview or article stating that Anno was admitted to a mental hospital after EoE and most of the death threats came after the TV ending.

If any of you guys are free, would You mind take a look on my new EoE subs and seem if you find any mistakes?

There is no absence of solutions in Evangelion. It's depressing a lot of the time because Anno did a good job
>>
>>139188265

Many of them actually concerned the ending to Death and Rebirth and it also had words of praise.
>>
>>139182844
Most people with some sort of depression, that can relate to the characters in some way or people with an interest in the topic love it.

People wanting to watch a badass bland action show end up being disappointed. Nothing suprising there
>>
>>139190131
do you mean like typos or translation errors?
>>
>>139183842
The Bokurano anime is pretty tame compared to the manga. The anime took a ton of liberties since the actually manga wasn't even finished yet so a lot of emotional moments just don't exist. The anime ending isn't as nearly depressing as the Manga ending.
>>
>>139182844

So can you give a TL:DR version of what was so bad (in your view)?

I only watched the first DVD box of the anime and stopped reading the manga at vol 10 because they stopped translating them to my language.

Didn't feel like even trying to find the rest because while it was good so far it left me with a depressed overall feeling, that made me not want to return to it.
>>
>>139194685
Mainly Typos an missed ponctuations.
>>
>>139195578
You could just finish watching the show. It's only one of the most highly acclaimed, influential, and popular series of all time.
>>
>>139195578
Dont read the manga, it's shit.
>>
>>139196160
No it isn't.
>>
So...
Who are still alive after the third impact or whatever? Just Asuka, Shinji and his mother?
>>
>>139196320

The only people that are alive are Shinji and Asuka. Yui's soul is I guess in Eva 01 for all of eternity. People who got tanged can come back if they will it, although how that exactly happens is not understood.
>>
>>139196567
>The only people that are alive are Shinji and Asuka

b-but for how long? they have no food, sea is red and landscape is destroyed, not to speak that white gigantic Lilith/Rei thingy crashed back to earth which could fuck up the earth rotation.

There is no recovery possible, earth is utterly destroyed.
>>
>>139196737

Well, than no wonder they call it an impact

>>

>>
>>139196858

I don't think Anno himself knows how to link EoE to Rebuild.
