I don't get slice of life or cute girls doing cute things shows. There's no action, no drama, no romance, it's not even funny or interesting, and it does nothing new with technique or storytelling. The problem is that you are assuming that Yui (and the other characters for that matter) stopped her character development in season 1, which is wrong, although I would agree that the attention seems to have shifted drastically to Azu-nyan, that kinda put me off because I don't really like her character all that much (she's my least favorite), however I understand the necessity of a characters that delivers the conflict, in this case the kouhai that is left behind, so it makes sense for the sake of the plot to focus on her.

The problem is that they spend way too much time focusing on Dera, who is neither interesting or entertaining, and the islander subplot, which is wholly pointless. The genre at its core is not what I mean to dismiss, it is the series which comprise it. As far as iyashikei/SOL goes, the only one that has impressed me is Aria, and that is mostly for setting, because god knows the characters are dull.

Anyone who reads manga would know exactly how much better and more complete the source material usually is. It sounds like you're just trying to justify not reading it.
I believe that it's a good thing if an anime adaption has an anime original ending/route, because that makes it stand out from the source material.
Although it would be nice for source viewers if they get to know about this beforehand, either by the anime crew mentioning this on the twitter or the anime website, or the anime having a title that makes it clear that it will be stand-alone, so that source material purists don't have to feel like they're wasting their time.
I don't understand the hate for Kill la Kill. It's pretty much what I expected from the guys who made TTGL. It's flawed but TTGL was also really flawed.

I'm a huge TTGL fan and even I didn't really like it. I didn't like the whole theme of it and found it stupid. Even though the creators are known for their fanservice in what they make, I still didn't like all of it in KLK. There are limits, even for Trigger, and I feel like they need to be aware of them.
Discussion of trigger shows (and a few others) should be banned for the sake of the board, and Iyashikei is the most repulsive genre of anime.
