How would you describe this characters personality?
I don't know why Ranta doesn't leave such a shitty bunch of ungrateful scrubs for a better party.
Ranta is the only one in the party with the mentality for success in this world.
He's the one that helps the party without them even realizing just how big an impact he has on their survival.
He takes a single monster head on to unburden them.
He can actually kill shit alone unlike the rest of the party.
He's the one that pushes the party to take necessary risks but relents if they all disagree.
He's the one that haggles shamelessly for better prices for his allies gear, the one that helps the party relieve stress by making himself the clown or to give them a common enemy, the one that isn't afraid to speak his mind.
And his reward is a steaming bucket of pure vitriol from everyone besides Mogzo, but he's nice to everyone, even "sweet" Shihoru waits for everyone to be against him to say shit, not even looking him in the eye or even speaking loudly enough. The bitch doesn't even have the guts to talk shit to his face even when everyone is already at it but still does it.
Ranta truly is a proper Dread Knight, suffering for the sake of the party that doesn't even recognize him.
Even after the Kobold incident when they actually saw just how important he was they still treat him as badly as before.
Haruhiro is such a shitty MC, I don't see how the hell people like the guy but hate Ranta. His monologues are awful, spineless indecisive dreck that I can tolerate but his constant thoughts about Ranta really makes him seem like such a vapid passive aggressive cunt.

Ranta is the group hot-head. Often something of a blow hard and very immature, his greatest contribution to the team dynamic is his willingness to fight. Even that however is added with some reluctance (despite his protests to the contrary). In combat his goal is to win in the single minded pursuit of Vices (Dark Knight skills), although his abilities are becoming formidable, it doesn't make him much of a team player. He seems to have hypermasculine aspirations, but lacks the self control or true confidence to back up his arrogance. He is also not overly bright, as Haruhito has outwitted him a few times through the story so far.
Ranta is a pervert and misogynist, seeming to be some sort of coping mechanism. His regard to the women in the party is reprehensible and shows a lack of respect not only for their persons, but hints at his own disregard of himself. He is clearly a character holding deeper issues, though these have yet to be revealed due to the collective amnesia of the party. Perhaps something in the future will reveal an element of his backstory that will balance out his misogynist behavior. Currently it has been shown that even the murder of a goblin touches his soul to an extent, as he is clearly traumatized after the party's first kill.

While Ranta may have picked a villainous sounding class like "Dread Knight", I'd say he's the most genuinely heroic character in his party. Unfortunately, no one sees it because he's always mouthing off or humiliating himself when the situation doesn't call for courage.
The party would probably be better off if they were more willing to back him up or support him, like when he was trying to defend his party's claim over a cave they discovered. Sadly, they're a bunch of pussies and think he's the one who's garbage.

Spoilers of volume 8 are appearing in 2chan, and by more than one person so seems legit.
It's a bit confusing but apparently:

Haru's absence is too big so Ranta and Merry get surrounded by the enemy and surrender. Shihoru and Kuzaku also get in a pinch but were saved (don't really understand by who)
Haru and Yume meet the Rocks and acts with them for a bit and get their approval(?).
On Ranta side, he challenge the enemy for a duel but loses. When it seems like they were going to be killed, Ranta surrenders and in exchange is able to look after merry temporarily (claim her for himself?)
Shihoru and Kuzaku end up crossing with the enemy again, this time the group with Ranta. As they are perplexed Haruhiro and the others also come. Ranta and Haruhiro have a battle, Ranta then withdraw after saying some profound words.
This is about the first half.

Regarding romance, there isn't much on volume 8. Merry is captured by the enemy for most of it, and doesn't seems like there was anything between Kukaku and Shihoru. There were some nice moments between Haru and Yume and she says some things that can be easily misunderstood (Does Haru-kun likes Yume? I like Haru-kun) but as the usual doesn't seems like there is an romantic intention behind it (does Yume even understands romance?).
POV wise it was about 60% Haruhiro, 20% Ranta, 12% Merry, 8% Shihoru.

It's nice to see him improve as a leader, but it's also kind of dumb how he's apparently the only guy who can think and make decisions at any given moment. He's the leader, but characters should be able to operate on their own without him. I didn't get too far in the novels yet but he doesn't look self-centered in what I've read, just stupid when it comes to human interaction. He won't understand how others feel unless they tell him. It's a direct contrast with Ranta who's super perceptive but also a good example of a somewhat self-centered character. For example, the times he always refused to contribute money and spent it all on himself, when he refused the warrior guild because it wasn't cool enough, etc. But he's also capable of thinking of others and his role on the team. It's an interesting character balance.
