Last Lupin thread didn't get bumped enough... I'm disappointed in you, /a/.

Anyways, I'm so unbelievably hyped. I've been so disappointed with the TV specials lately that it's nice to get a breath of fresh air after such a long time (aside from Jigen movie, of course. I liked that a lot).

I'm hoping this will be the kind of series to get more people into Lupin. I just want more people to enjoy the series I love so dearly ;_; is that too much to ask? I want to get more of my friends into Lupin, one of them already said she'd watch Blue Jacket with me.
>>
>>124733214
This music is amazing, I don't usually get hyped for anything, but fuck it. I'm sure this will be great.

That is the ultimate struggle anon. Just trying to share Lupin can be so difficult, cause if you show em Cagliostro they want Gallntpin and if you show em green Jacket they want Bondpin and if you show em RedVsGreen they get confused as shit
>>
Italianfag here, bringing news about the airing of the new serie on the italian TV

Still no date FUCK
>>
Dat soundtrack
>>
Looks rad. Can I get into Lupin with this, or is there required watching?
>>
Thanks to the anon(s) that suggested me Cagliostro yesterday, this shit was rad.
Downloading the first series now. Goemon is the moest
>>
>>124734625
Still no info from Lupin III magazine yet.
>>
>>124734648
You probably can just start watching it, but do yourself a favour and watch Cagliostro if anything.
>>
If it had the animation style from the Fujiko series and the Jigen movie I would be sold.
>>
>>124736410
No problem (pretty sure I was one of them). Goemon is not to be fucked with in the green jacket series and in red jacket there are a lot of episodes where he's the focus. Sadly a lot of movies/specials just have him doing his own thing until a Deus Ex Machina is needed. The Fuma Conspiracy is an excellent Goemon-centric OVA though.
>>
>>124736647
>watch Cagliostro
Is Revo the best release?
>>
>>124734282
I started off my girlfriend by showing her Mamo first, and she fucking loved it. I'm so surprised, actually. One of my friends was less than successful and his friends ended up getting bored... oh well.
Imagine starting someone off with Red vs Green though, that'd be pure clusterfuck. That'd turn someone away from the series, really. At least in my opinion. I really didn't like that special.

>>124736410
I'm glad you enjoyed it! The first anime series is good, but keep in mind that it's shitty (because it's a 70s anime) but still somehow retains a lot of its charm. And like >>124736925 said, Goemon is great in the TV series but he's usually useless in the specials/movies, I find.
Fuma Conspiracy is required watching, though. Seriously. Watch it. Especially since you like Goemon. It's one of my favourites. Everything is good and the animation is spot-on. I mean, the voice actors are different (for budget reasons), but you kind of... forget after a while.
>>
>>124737785
No idea.
>>
>>124734648
It literally does not matter where you start
>>
I'm excited for Blupin but not excited knowing I have to wait until Fall for the Japanese release. I suppose the rumors of Lupin's VA going through a divorce were true.

I also wish that there were scanlations for the rest of the Shin Lupin manga.

>>124734213
I thought that Blood Seal was good. I also liked the Mine Fujiko spin off that most of /a/ has a hate boner for. The Jigen special was great too. Hopefully we'll get more of Koike's hardboiled Lupin in the future.
>>
>>124740328
>scanlations
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
>>
I recently tried getting into the Lupin series in anticipation for this. I watched That Woman Called Fujiko Mine and it seemed like it was a prequel story to the entire series. I'm honestly not sure how it compares to the other shows in the series. /a/ hates it when people ask this question, but what did other people think of That Woman Called Fujiko Mine because I never hear it being talked about even in Lupin threads
>>
>>124740674
Most people hate it and there's a bunch of good reasons for that, but it's far from being the worst thing in Lupin franchise. It's far from being the best either way though.

Loved the style and some middle episodes with Lupin/Goemon/Jigen sheanigans, but the main plot was uninteresting (and turned out falling apart in the end, as expected of Okada), the Zenigata sidekick was terrible, and Fujiko-focused episodes weren't even remotely as good as the ones without her, which supposedly being the .protagonist of the serie is quite the flaw.
>>
>>124740674
I liked it quite a bit, mainly because it did something different compared to the specials we're getting each year. There were some good episodes, but it did have its problems.

To get a more classical Lupin experience you could watch The Castle of Cagliostro, though you can usually watch anything Lupin and have a good time.
>>
>>124740674
Fujiko's series is weird. If you get into the series most stuff will be like the first half rather than the latter half (no bird cult stuff). Watch the popular movies (Mamo, Cagliostro etc.) and the green jacket series. Then if you like what you see, go into the long, renown red jacket series. From there just watch the rest of the movies and stay away from pink jacket.

I've had trouble enjoying some of the specials, in all honesty. Pycal movie was definitely one of them, but I really hated the one with Fujiko's ancestor. Fuck that special, it was so boring. Elusiveness of the Fog, right? Fuck it. Don't watch that one. I didn't like Voyage to Danger, either.
Then again, maybe I just have ridiculously high expectations for Lupin specials.

>>124740328
Yesss, Blood Seal is one of my favourites. The animation is great.

>>124741827
>stay away from pink jacket
Anon, why? Pink Jacket has some merit to it. It's charming!
>>
>>124740396
ok.

>>124741170
I often struggle recommending Lupin to anyone because it's like >>124734282 said.

I did however get my friend to watch and finish the first series and he ended up loving it, so much that he's now considering watching the second series.
>>
>>124741827
I hate it when people talk shit about Pink jacket when it has some of the best animation & great style.
>>
Cagliostro is so good, but Lupin is really out of character in it.
>>
>>124742100
>>124742032
Okay, Pink Jacket is just mediocre which can be disappointing if you come right out of red jacket.
>>
>>124742101
Lupin is older and more "mature" in Caglistro, that's why he seems so out of character.
>>
>>124742160
But anon, red jacket has so many mediocre episodes, which can't be helped considering how long it ran.
>>
>>124742173
No,he's just your average Miyazaki MC with the name Lupin slapped on it.
>>
>>124742209
To be fair there wasn't an "average Miyazaki MC" at that point. Pretty sure that was his first major film.
>>
I'm interested in watching Red jacket, is there some rec list of best episodes?
>>
>>124742209
But it's explained in the movie that he's older. There's that whole flashback scene with Lupin at the casino or whatever (I can't remember exactly what it was).

>>124742201
>>124742160

Both are pretty lame in their own way. At the same time, they're both good in their own way too. It's just a matter of personal preference. I personally like both!
>>
>>124742324
>flashback scene with Lupin at the casino
That was in the beginning of the movie.
I think you mean when he had the flashback of the first time he tried to sneak into Cagliostro castle and he got shot up.
Pretty strange how Lupin still looked exactly the same 10 years before and after. But hey, it's been like 40 years and they all haven't really aged at all.
>>
I'm honestly just hyped enough about the blue suit
>>
>>124742324
Of course.
I love all the jackets.

Still, I wish the manga caught on in the West. Monkey Punch's Lupin is awesome.
>>
>>124742409
There is a flash back scene where he's gambling, surrounded by women, shooting while driving off, etc. It accompanys his first attempt at the castle.
>>
>>124742409
No, I'm not talking about the part at the beginning of the movie.

>"It happened more than ten years ago. I tried to solve the mystery of the Goat Money. I was still a young punk."

I can't find the scene that >>124742652 is talking about (I'm trying to grab a screencap) but there's plenty of hints throughout the film that imply that Lupin's gotten older and more mature.
>>
>>124743081
He talks about it when he's hidden by the old man and his dog. It's right after Zenigata tries to reason with Interpol.
>>
>>124742318
Not really. Red jacket aired one episode a week for a few years so quality really varies. Some episodes are fucking godly while other re pretty werid. I tink I might ctch some shit for this but I m going o suggst the first 26 episodes. Those are the ones that aired o Adult Swim all those years ago and stated a mini lupin tread in america. To counter act the aged feel of the series the company added ALOT of jokes and pop culture references that rubbed alot of fans the wrong way but made me a fan all those yeas ago. After those episodes the dub calmed down alot
>>
>>124738630
>lupin s1
>shit
You can fuck right off.
>>
>>124743339
It kind of rubbed me the wrong way too but mostly because it's very clear the the anime is old and that it takes place in the 70s.
>>
>>124742318
Last thread had one.
>>
>>124743668
Yeah it is kinda reminds me of archer. Everything looks like the 60's and politics are still cold war but the characters use cellphones and archer talks about recent tv shows...

It's shit but it still somehow manages to be my favourite Lupin series. Just because I think it's shit (as in it being poorly made, then again what Lupin TV series ISN'T poorly made?) doesn't mean I hate it. I love it. I had the first theme song stuck in my head for months when I first started watching it.

>>124742554
Same, manga Lupin is great. He's such an asshole.

>>124743231
That was it, thank you. I don't know why I couldn't find it.
>>
How can anyone just watching such old, tired shit?
>>
>>124743854
>It's shit but it's the best
That doesn't make sense. It also isn't poorly made, it looks great and the animation is fine.
>>
>>124743857
Come on man, you can troll better than that. Apply yourself.
>>
>>124738630
> I'm so surprised, actually.

The weird thing about Lupin and probably one of the more surprising things is that women seem to like it a lot even newbies.

> Green VS Red

Showing that to a newbie is just plain retarded. Not because it's bad but because it's full of visual references that only a fan would recognize.
>>
>>124743854
You do know it was made in the 70's right? For being that old I think it look great. Personally I think Green jacket has the best look out of the first three series.
>>
>>124744081
I agree, all the characters have their best designs in Green jacket too. Especially Jigen (gotta love the white tie).
>>
>>124743854
The series isn't so much poorly made as it is made on a low budget. You have to remember this was 1971 and color animation was still pretty new for Japanese television. Under the circumstances, the series has actually aged pretty well.

Anyway, it won't kill you to admit something you like is good.
>>
>>124744015
Green vs Red is kinda bad though.
>>
>>124744215
At least it's interesting. I would rather get another bad but interesting Lupin like Fujiko or GvsR than another bland OVA.
>>
>>124744215
I disagree but I respect your opinion.
>>
>>124742160
Pink Jacket has good animation, but the colors are pretty ugly. It's the writing that is subpar by Lupin standards. Red Jacket has a lot of mediocre and outright bad episodes.
>>
>>124744195
Low budget is definitely the more appropriate term for green jacket. It's fantastic either way despite its age and (assumed) lack of budget.
>>
>>124742318
Just watch all of it. Some episodes are good, some are great, others not so much. It's a long, wild ride with lots of ups and downs but it's entertaining even when it's bad, I find.
>>
>>124744275
RvsG is a little to rambling for my tastes.

But like Fujiko It looks fucking amazing
>>
>>124744195
I had no interest in lupin at first since it's so big but I downloaded cagliostro the other week, and the original is also only 26 episodes so it's not as intimidating as it sounds
>>
>>124744195
Red jacket's 99th episode, I believe was the first anime episode to have stereo sound on television.
>>
Only Lupin I've ever seen was Cagliostro. I really need to get around to watching more.
>>
>>124744296
> colors

Jesus christ, this. Everything is washed out and dayglo and it's fucking terrible. But I do wonder how much of it is simply bad copies.

Like, would it not look so bad if I watched the BD?

>>
>>124744081
age means nothing for animation, what matter is the budget. Snow white and the seven dwarfs came out in 1937 after all.
>>
>>124744628
Walther P-38 is seriusly underrated, but you should just watch Green Jacket first.
>>
>>124743854
>I like it but it's shit
Kill yourself. I guess you also watch anime 'ironically'
>>
>>124744692
>>124744802
I was just thinking about watching all the series, movies, and shit in roughly the order they aired.
>>
>>124744300
It's not really lack of budget as much as just the low standards of animation at that point in time.
Watch other TV anime from '71, Lupin looked amazing for its time.
>>
>>124744837
N-no ;_;
I meant it in an endearing sense, sorry
>>
>>124744856
It's a ton of material. Avoid 90% of tv specials though.
>>
>>124744856
Actually thts not a bad idea. You will get a nice balance that way instead of watching all the stuff most people love then getting around to the meh stuff
>>
>>124745017
It's not as much as Detective Conan, which I just caught up with early this month after watching it for an entire year. It was so much fun

>>124745051
Watching the meh/terrible stuff just makes the good stuff that much better.
>>
>>124745017
I don't think the specials should be avoided alot of them are just ok. I have NEVER watched a Lupin bit of media and not been entertained. Although babylon really toed the line...
>>
>>124744900
Low budget was definitely part of the equation. A lot of what you see from the 60s and early 70s can be considered an experiment in limited animation.
>>
>>124745199
True, but it is only low budget when compared to anime series that came afterwords. At the time, Lupin III was a high budget show, and that's why it still looks good.
>>
>>124745197
Honestly, I like Babylon. But I think I am more forgiving because it was something cobbled together last minute because of Oshii's removal.
>>
>>124745197

>>
>>124745627
It is... very, very.... VERY silly.

But that's what makes it so charming, I can't think of any other animated Lupin that goes quite that far into the silliness monkey punch could dish out.

Honestly, I am surprised they spent that much money on it. The pilot film had already gone over budget to the point of being deemed unreleasable.

Aww yiss, Lupin. Since when has /a/ been doing Lupin threads recently?

I like the red shirt TV series way too much. Lots of barmy stuff in it. Pink shirt is still definitely watchable (gotta love Sexy Adventure), but does devolve into further weirdness.

Best of all, lots of screencap/gif material.
