Is Slayers worth watching? It's one of those 90s anime I never got to see as a kid and lately I just felt like watching old retro shit I've never seen before at the time. Nothing too old (nothing before '85) So I thought about the Slayers series. So is it worth getting into or no?

Watch the first episode, you'll get a good feeling on whether or not you'll enjoy the set up and style of comedy within it even if it does more more serious and plot focused the closer it gets to the end of a season

Sometimes the pacing's a bit dreadful(Especially in TRY), like that can be because the series is someone's game of D&D going wrong but often it's just dreadful writing,
It's one of those series that's an emblem of 90s anime so you just have to roll with that, sometimes it's really daft.
Evolution, and Evolution-R... were upsetting, after a massive hiatus between anything it finally returned , only they don't really continue the story or do anything new and essentially revolve around rehashing the first series again(but different) in order to sell more books.

Maybe, it's pretty full of tropes and the story isn't stellar but I enjoyed it.
I watched Slayers only a few years ago and absolutely loved it. It's still somewhat nostalgic for me though, having grown up with NES and SNES RPGs
These days a whole season of average anime contains about the same amount of plot as a single Slayers episode.

Yes! The first season is an absolute classic. I rewatched it for the first time in years recently and it was better than the vast majority of anime from the past few years.* First movie and second season (Slayers Next) are also excellent.
*I might be under some degree of nostalgia bias, but in recent years a lot of rewatches have resulted in disappointment- not Slayers though.

Not really. For a while, at least in some countries, Pokémon was one of the few things you could watch; I'm not saying it figuratively, as in "it was watchable", I'm saying that it was LITERALLY one of the few animes that were available for normal people. Specially if you didn't have cable. It's not that it was good, it's that it was part of the few anime we could watch (and when Pokémon came most of the other anime were in reruns already).
Nowadays you can watch a sick amount of anime through crunchyroll alone (let's not even get into how much you can download through torrents, bots and even direct downloads); often in real time. Internet back then took a long time to display even one of the 640x480 pictures people are posting in this thread, forget about downloading a video (if it even was an option back then), the first ones looked literally like shit and they took an eternity to download. Us anime fans were subjected to the whims of a few companies; there was a privileged elite of a few guys that somehow managed to get the VHS of the cool shows and subbed it, but it's not as if it was available everywhere, you had to be pretty lucky to know someone among those groups (most of us weren't).
Eventually someone in TV studios realized that anime was getting popular so we got more and more shows, sometimes (exceptionally) they even tried subbing them for cable TV, thus Pokémon was quickly forgotten by most.
To be honest, most of hardcore Pokémon fans I know are in their 20s (mid 20s at most), they started watching it as a kids when Slayers wasn't on TV anymore.
I could watch Slayers properly subbed, I actually plan to do it sooner or later, but I would never, ever watch even the entire first Season of Pokémon again.
