Tsukihime thread since I just now got around to it.
[spoilers] So am I really supposed to believe the difference between the good and true end is that in the true end she's too retarded to know she can just wait 7 days to recover enough to hold in her bloodthirst? [/spoilers]
>>
>>119695297
Tsukihime was a doujin novel and is thus a lot more patchy. Yes, Arcueid Good End is legendarily dumb since there's literally no difference in the lead-up.

No, the difference is that killing Roa restores enough of her power to make her recover in Good End, and for absolutely no reason doesn't in true End. Nothing more.

It's less of a problem than Near Side and True Side routes existing in completely incompatible universes that would have needed to split long before the game began through no influence of Shiki.

Basically, there's a reason the remake isn't just throwing new sprites and artwork in and calling it a day. Nasu probably wants to rewrite some of that shit.
>>
>>119695450
I mean Near Side and Far Side.
>>
>>119695450
I heard it was getting a remake but theyre actually going to rewrite some of it? i haven't finished anything but both of arcueids endings so i wouldn't know theyre incompatible yet.
>>
>>119695297
Spoiler tags use "spoiler" singular, rather than "spoilers" plural.

>>119695652
Satsuki might actually be getting a route this time, IIRC.
>>
>>119695652
Yes, Nasu is going to rewrite some parts, however he said he wouldn't touch vital points.
>>
>>119695450
What the hell are you talking about? The difference between Near and Far is meeting Arcueid and (spoiling because OP hasn't read Far Side) whether SHIKI or Roa is dominant.
>>
>>119695713
>>119695778
I was really into the VN until I read her good end (i hit true end first). But the stupidity of it just ruined a lot of it for me.
>>119695806
Thanks, i would have read it.
>>
>>119695806
>whether SHIKI or Roa is dominant.

Precisely, something that had to have been decided the moment Roa's soul was uploaded into SHIKI years and years before the story begins, and obviously years and years before any of the choices you get in the VN. The story pretends that the difference between the Near and Far routes is in the choices Shiki makes, but the truth is that his choices have no conceivable way of altering which of the two was dominant.
>>
Another thing in general, unless its revealed in another route that isn't ciels. I don't see myself reading that one. why is the translation SHIKI or Shiki. I understand which person is which but the actual untranslated text isn't different is it?
>>
>>119695997
Because the names are written in different kanji and that's fucking impossible to do in English.
>>
Reminder that Kohaku's route is the best route that Nasu has done.
>>
>>119696041
I was just curious since I haven't seen the original. Thanks. That being the case Shiki is retarded for not wondering why he wrote his name in different kanji around the castle.
>>
>>119696102
I think they wrote in kana, like this シキ? No kanji.
>>
>>119696177
But its still wrote differently between SHIKI and shiki right? The point is that its wrote different there and theres no question of him writing his own name differently.
>>
>>119696086
It had a lot of potential but was a goddamn mess with great scenes thrown in.
Also the worst Nasu ending.

He wrote it in a rush, hopefully it'll live up to its full potential in the remake.
>>
>>119696212
SHIKI (四季) would write his name in katakana during the game, while Shiki (志貴) would always do it in kanji.

felt a little too happy compared to Hisui True which I did second to last before Kohaku

But I suppose everyone gets to live because the moral of that story was letting go of grudges and the past I guess. or maybe that's just my understanding of it
>>

He does. Repeatedly. In every route.

Did you even play it?
>>
>>119696407
The entire castle scene he doesn't question it at all. Oh it was the same names over and over, yup yup. But I stated I only played Arcueids route. I don't remember him questioning that at all.
>>
>>119695297
Difference between true and good ending is something about how she got her power back from Roa, which let her control her bloodlust, but she didn't in the other.

I forget the choice that led up to it, but that probably was the reason.
>>
>>119695297
Hisui and Kohaku's routes are the real routes in this game

Arcueid's route is just an appetizer
>>
>>119696464

Tsukihime overall feels strange for a Nasu story. Mostly because a lot of it is "just a story". With most other works and characters like in FSN or CCC, there's food for debate involving motivations and philosophies and all that, but with Tsukihime it's pretty much...

>That thing happened.
>Yep, it sure did.

There isn't much beyond that or themes to a lot of the characters. Even Shiki's "just being alive is awesome" thing is not really focused on much.
>>
>>119696394
It was a route written with the intentions of giving a certain someone a good end, or giving closure. Of course compared to the question route the answer route is happier.

It's like saying it's weird that Matsuribayashi is happier than Minagoroshi in Higurashi.

>>119696564
It's like asking "Does Coco's route really have to be the last route I play in Ever17? I'd rather do Sara's route instead last".
>>
>>119696583
actually you can do either Akiha or Hisui in the order you want as long as you did on Near Side route. BUT, you have to do Hisui to unlock Kohaku
>>
>>119695297
All OP needs to know is that Akiha is best Type-Moon and best imouto.

>>
>>119695946
That's really not how it works. Roa is still present, it's just that SHIKI's ego is dominant. Roa could take over at any moment had SHIKI's ego remained weak.
>>
>>119696583
You never do Kohaku's route anything other than last, right after Hisui's route. It's the climax story after you learn the truth behind how everything so many years back at the end of Hisui's route.

That's why I'm a bit more fond of Tsukihime.

They're very similar, but Fate feels like a story representing all of mankind, whereas Tsukihime seems like a story dealing with those same things but in a much more personal way.

They both become greater after reading the other I'd say, due to the similarities and differences you can appreciate.
>>
>>119696788
If i leave her for last, I'm really just gonna not do her route. I'm a bad person like that.
>>119696814

>>
>>119696647
It's a much more compelling and suspenseful story than Fate's, though, which is why some people like it more.

Hoping Nasu doesn't toss what made it so great out the trash while he tries to make the entire remake about why Tohno's so loony
>>
>>119696717
The whole point is that SHIKI's mind was so fucked up Roa just couldn't take over. HSIKI even mentions that there's something inside him that wants to control him but just can't.

And you keep missing the fucking point: WHAT PART OF ANY OF THIS IS AFFECTED BY CHOICES IN THE VN?

I don't know about that buddy, Stay Night and Zero for the most part are mostly about Idealism, sure they touch upon other things while addressing that and while the questions raised will be understood by people of any culture, it won't appeal to the personal experiences of everybody

>>
>>119696956
I like arc so I guess ill clear it then.
>>
>>119696647
I disagree. There's plenty to talk about in thematic terms. What you're encountering is just a style thing that has changed over time. In his earlier works (Tsukihime, KnK, DDD) Nasu's tendency was to be very subtle with how he handled "the point". A point is definitely there, but exactly what it is is contingent upon interpretation.

On the other hand, in F/SN and subsequent works the reader is more or less handed the point in a monolog. It means that it's a lot easier to jump to the meat of the discussion since there's no need to wade through a discussion about interpretations beforehand.

Despite this, I definitely prefer the first approach. Despite all the works that do it more or less constantly, the latter feels painfully amateurish no matter how many times I see it. It's almost as if people took the lack of an obvious moral of the story decked out in neon lights in his previous works as the total lack of a point, so someone told him to stop being so obtuse and get that spoon out. The newer approach feels insulting to the intelligence of the reader and takes away a lot of the fun of interpretation, which I personally prefer to, say, the inane philosophy 101-tier debates spawned by F/Z.
>>
>>119696960
What I mean is that those issues they have they are not dealing with just for the sake of themselves, but for ideals that are shared by subsets of humanity.
>>
>>119697021
I don't think KnK was very subtle, at least in the anime. I don't like it enough to read the books.
>>
>>119696867
Kohaku actually fred SHIKI in the far side. It's something that happened just slightly it branched to the far side.
>>
>>119697090
Try to think about what you say properly. She didn't free him in the far side, she freed him before the game even began which is what kicked off the plot as Akiha called Shiki back home.

Tsukihime really is not a story that represents all of mankind. It's very rural in a way in comparison. Even if Arcuied is a big concept, it's a lot more a story of a small town and a normal killer than anything about mankind.

The concept of "Innocent Monsters" is a lot more prevalent here and in all Nasu works than something like that. Nasu loves those types that might cause destruction or might be antagonistic, but aren't in truth evil. Maybe they're warped, inhuman and can't be judged by the same values, or something about them takes away a true malice. Sacchin at times is an innocent monster who did not really have malice or wish for that path in truth, she grew warped but not of her will, while Nero is a monster who took some glee in his path in comparison, he chose this, and isn't the same trope.

"...... Shiki-san......?"
My fingers touch her.
My fingers trace the lines of her face.
They brush her smooth skin, and reach her hair, then---

"---Kohaku, you came here ahead of me?"

Vigorously opening the screen door, Akiha enters the room.

"----What are you two doing?"
Akiha's emotionless voice.

"A, Akiha......!? This, it's not what you think......!"
I stand up in a hurry. I'll just tell her to calm down.
There's nothing wrong, or anything suspicious.
We haven't done anything, and all Kohaku-san did was watch over me after I collapsed.

"Wait, Akiha. I just collapsed, so Kohaku-san was---"
It's over before I can finish.

Akiha stares at Kohaku-san and enters.

It's only a moment after.
Slap! The dry sound echoes through the room.

"Wha........."
There wasn't even time to stop it.
Akiha just walked in and slapped her.
Kohaku-san takes a few steps back. It must've been pretty hard.

We got about four or five doujinshi from CCC, and 90% of them are unscanned.

There are dozens upon dozens scanned for Tsukihime, so this is really not a good comparison.

The comparison for Tsukihme to CCC doujinshi is about 10 to 1. Of course CCC would get a few since it just came out, but it's really not quite as much as you think.

>If Fate had a character searching for Happiness, it was the happiness of a perfect Utopia for everyone.

It was mainly just that same guy, and the other characters in the story told him that he was warped compared to normal desires, while searching for your own happiness was normal. Rin didn't search for a utopia, in fact she had an entire analogy about how goodwill like that is like free money. There's no use for something handed out so easily.

Even Captain Selfless as the routes went on tried to learn to balance his own happiness and not just the happiness of the world in some small measure. It was the story of someone with inhuman ideals gradually becoming more human, after you find out that he's warped.

The old guys had grand ideals originally, but those ideals grew warped along with their lives.

Similar to Nero Chaos, but different. That's a reoccurring theme with anything Nasu. The longer you live the more warped you grow, not just physically. Until you've long since forgotten the original truth you sought. People are meant to die, and DAA are people who have grown warped pursing some immortality often enough.

It is definitely not. Tsuki, the atmosphere, the characters, fit right into the established Nasuverse at the time of writing. Although, the philosophy is not as "in your face," it's still there through Shiki's interactions with his harem, just not as apparent. This is due to the fact that Shiki's problems are different Compared to Shirou and Shiki, which allows for a different storytelling.

It was subtle in that although the sub-points were fairly obvious the overarching themes were a significantly less accessible, even though they built upon the theme of each particular chapter.

For example, the specific point of Overlooking View is fairly obvious: the way a suicide is approached by the person killing themselves (i.e. initiative, reason and mindset) matters a lot. The fact that people complain about the feeling of thematic discontinuity is evidence enough that the connections between that theme and the bigger theme (i.e. Kirie as analogous to SHIKI) are not very obvious.
