With characters as strong as Dragon Ball's it's really hard to make a villain that can be a believable threat, but Buu really pulled it off.

I loved Buu. After villains like Frieza and Cell, he was a great change in the formula, but intimidating enough of a threat to keep the arc going.
The arc really did seem like the characters were pushed to desperation just to beat this guy. Majin Vegeta didn't work, Gotenks didn't work, Mystic Gohan didn't work, and it goes on and on. The final battle is literally them throwing their last reserves of power at him until they can finish him off once and for all. The whole arc seemed like a desperate struggle for them, and I loved it.
I like the Fat Buu, but he was awful as a villain, the other Buus were all cool as fuck, tho.
