Just because people didn't like how things developed, doesn't mean they were secondariness or whatever you want to believe.
Plenty of us read the story and thought it to be crap, by the end.
Consider also, there's some difference between you who (likely) read the story once it was done, whereas most of us read the story as it was being released - I started by the time EP3 was out. Thus we had a fuckton of time to discuss, theories and debate, and thus develop expectations that you, who read the story all at once, never got to develop.
Being able to discuss a story with others also gives you a different perspective, since other can point things out you didn't realise, from important plot threads or even problems with the narrative.
Sadly, there's hardly anyone in these threads these days, and even when there are plenty of posters, almost no one discusses the story any more. The comments - other than waifu-fags - are either "The story is shit" or " I liked it".
All in all, the best part of Umineko - other than EPs 1-5 and the amazing OST - was to discuss it with /a/ and /jp/. The threads were really, really fun.

I am an Umineko reader since Ep 4. I am perfectly happy with how Ryukishi ended the stories, specially regarding how good the foreshadowing was. I expected something that would bow my mind, and it did, and it was heavily foreshadowed since Ep 1.
People are simply a bit miffed because Ep 8 didn't give all the answers in a neat, easy to understand package, and because it was 'meme' to hate Umineko as a result. That's how it works, usually, with parroting and circle-jerking.

I feel like his drop in popularity is wholly undeserved. Umineko was a flawed masterpiece the like that is incredibly rare to even attempt. Higanbana was a tremendously fun VN, easily equal to the best parts of Higurashi. Even RGD is a good experiment and fun to read.

I felt that a lot of things were made easier for her. She was an antagonist after all, and wasn't given the role of an under dog for that reason. Battler certainly couldn't summon a witch hunting loli who could help confirm basic facts.
