FMA and Hellsing I enjoyed.
Geass had an interesting premise, but I found the cast unlikeable, the story messy, and the designs hideous.

It's an animated series written in Japan, by and for the Japanese, and aired primarily in Japan. I get that it was based off of the Finish books, but you've got Remi in your own 3x3 and that's just an adaptation of the French Sans Famille.

The animated series was a Dutch-Japanese coproduction that's been very successful pretty much everywhere in Europe (lots of Euro-Jap coprods back then, especially with France and Italy, since anime wasn't a trend and didn't necessarily export on its own merits).
Your statement that it was aimed exclusively at the Japanese is purely and simply wrong.
Rémi's obviously based on a French book (very common in the late 70's and 80's to adapt Western books), but it wasn't aimed initially for export and it's stylistically very Japanese.
Anyway, as far as I'm concerned Moomin's not difference from any show contracted to a foreign country : it's a result of the local craft, but not the local culture.
Going to update this in the future. Right now I'm expanding my TV and Book tastes at the moment. Going to read Anna Karenina very soon.
