>Being a hateful character does not mean character design is bad; personality & character design are respectively emotionally & fact judged & should not be misconstrued.

I'm talking about Rem, not Subaru. The day Subaru survived was the day he hardly spent with rem and just fought dogs with her. Rem is a super attached loser yandere and Subaru's reason for helping psychopathic maids that kill him based on scent (that being a hate crime) is dumb as well. Emilia should have died in the mansion arc instead of two maids, one of out of the two not being in the story anymore and the other one being purely a love interest that can fight, a thing that emilia could have done as well.

It's a sort of torture/mercy situation.
If someone needed to die because of their wrongdoings, you could take them out right away to save them the pain.
Or you could torture them to death to gather information and give the punishment you believe they deserve.
