Why do hardly any anime characters own cars?

A lot of anime takes place in big cities and a lot of people who live in big cities use public transportation.

I realized that anime characters shouldn't be trusted with getting cars after I saw what Araragi chose to drive. Faggot could have at least gotten a miata.

This.

I've been driving for 7 years since I was 14. I've gone a month without a car and it's driving me crazy. Public transport is so inconvenient, boring a nd expensive. I've started walking everywhere instead even if it means having to walk 10-15km a day.

Here in ConcepciĆ³n ( a city of Chile ), public transport isn't boring at all. You have to be attentive or you hit yourself on braking with the seat that's in front of you. Almost every bus is riced as fuck, it's pretty much like the racing scenes from Shirobako, just replace Aoi and the other guy with 2 40-year old fat guys. I even saw a 16-year old kid driving.

Because Japan has a awesome public transport system in their large towns and citys making having a car unnecessary.
>>
Most of Japan lives in three or four large cities. They tend to get where they need to go through trains and many simply don't have the need for their own vehicle because Japan's public transportation system is designed to serve the general public and not the lowest common denominator like it is in the US.

Also, with the massively ubiquitous public transportation, it's also unnecessary.

While I'd be all for there being better public transportation within US cities, I think people outside of the US sometimes forget how big the country as a whole is and that not everyone lives in a city.

Off the top of my head I know Australia is apparently as big as the US, but don't know how they handle transportation.

It's less to do with size than it is how the US is divided into districts. In Europe the cities tend to be regional capitals that get to build infrastructure that branches out into their suburbs and satellite towns, while in the US cities are more limited to their immediate jurisdiction, and infrastructure has to go through county and state bureaucracy to get built. So it never happens.

>>144281171

Everybody in Australia lives in a handful of urban areas, mostly in the south east. There's fucking nothing in most of the country.

Anyway because the US was mostly built after cars were invented, even population centers aren't very densely populated so there aren't enough people to really support most public transport and when you take it you waste a ton of time getting places. Also you aren't allowed to shoot people for being smelly and rude in crowded areas.

Finally,

>>144278787

Almost every anime character is too young to own a car.
>>
>>144278787
lets say you live in a city with tons of people, and no parking space.
parking space for your car cost money, a spot can cost close to your rent.
you will no longer drive your car to anywhere close because you wont beable to find parking once you get there.
so you will mainly need a car for trips or far travel.
at that point, why own a car, when you can just rent one when you need it.

In most supercars it's at the point where the car can change gears more effectively than the drivers. The same technology is going to come to regular cars.

Maybe because most main characters don't have the legal age to drive?
And a big chunk of series are set in alternative realities where they don't use vehicles?

Oh come on, a board that has Initial D threads almost daily must have quite a few drivers.

SPEEDY SPEED BOY

That only implies that the board has a lot of eurobeat/car enthusiasts, not drivers.

There are daily threads about idols here, but that doesn't mean any of us can sing worth a damn, let alone do so on stage.
>>
>>144289734
I think driving is more common than dancing or singing in a stage.

Lap times don't matter, fun does. Manual is more fun and involving, simple as that.

Last I checked, the outcome of a race isn't that whoever has the most fun wins...

I feel like one of the only guys who dislikes driving.
I hate finding parking spaces and I am always afraid of grazing another car when parking in tight spots. Also I feel slightly anxious when I drive in places unknown to me. police cars make me feel uncomfortable or sudden unusual traffic situations. The knowdllege that fucking up for a single time could possibly end someones life also makes me uncomfortable too.

Man, Fuck driving cars.

>>
>>144296434

You're right, I'm 24 can't can't drive. Explain now to me in objective terms why manual isn't just an excuse to have something to fellate while you drive.
>>
>>144296662
You want to have more control over your gearbox so that it doesn't upshift early especially when racing up or downhill. Keep the revs high so that the engine is in its powerband and to get the most out of engine braking to mitigate some of the stress on your actual brakes. Helps prevent them from overheating.

Autos are usually more suited for the track.

Frankly, I'd rather have automatic. But as long as I'm buying used cars, I prefer ones with manual just because based on no knowledge at all I believe manual transmissions to be more durable and the cost of fixing them (should they break) to be much less.

>>144278952
Same goes for guns, but that doesn't stop a lot of anime characters either.

No, even if you drive it carefully with love. Autos are just that much better at shifting.
